First Silver in change in 3 years

Had to stop by Ace Hardware today to pick up a couple small things. Got a 1964 Washington Quarter in change! Call me a dork, but I was proud of myself for HEARING that it was silver before he even put it in my hand. Asked the cashier for another $2 in quaters. Got a bicentennial but no more silver. Made my day! image How long since your last silver from circulation (not including searching rolls)?

Wow, nice score! I would have bought him out of all the quarters. You probably made money buying your newspaper/magazine. It was nice essentially getting $5 back for free with my purchase. image

first time i ever searched half rolls (about a year ago) I returned the clads to a bank coin machine and went to the teller to get my cash back... it was 999.50. He put all the cash and change into an envelope and I headed home. Tucked the cash envelope away and didn't open it for a few days. Finally I dumped out the contents and saw there was a 1954 quarter in there... ugh. Wish I saw sooner so i could clean them out and maybe find more.

More recently, I was looking for my pocket piece Morgan (still MIA) and thought maybe my daughter snagged it off the floor and put it in her piggy bank. In looking through her bank contents I found a 1962 Roosie. Maybe I left it laying around (I'm usually very good about keeping silver away), maybe it came from change elsewhere.

Gas station in Atlanta probably 2-years ago, 1964 dime that looked like it had minted that morning. A "rare" occurrence to be sure! Great find.

received a silver quarter 1964 at the bar last week. Also got another quarter last year in change. before that over 15 years. Probably coming out of hiding due to the recession.

<---------- I think it's been that long for me too... Of course I worked at a few fast food joints when I was young... Might have seen some there. I know my mother has pulled silver from the till (With the managers knowledge of course).

I received an Eisenhower from a silver set from a Caseys Store a few Years ago on a $3 purchase. It is nice to make money when you buy something and get more back in change than you gave them. I also got a dime back a few months ago from a Pop machine.

    Never. Always look, too.
  • Have never gotten silver in change. Got a silver quarter and dime once from a change counting machine-- the lady actually set the 'rejected' coins on top of the machine. image
  • I spent the Christmas break sorting and rolling the house change (appx. $600) that the wifey and I have collected over the last year or year and a half. My silver take was; a 191? Mercury Dime, a 57D a 59D and 64D Roosevelt Dime, a 44D and 63D Washington Quarter as well as a 1910 Sixpence.

Aside from silver I also found 1905 Indian Head Cent and one each of 1943 P, D & S Steel Cents.

I was quite stoked with each of the finds.
  • In November, a '64 quarter practically mint state. My wife found it in change.

found a silver war nickel in change over the Thanksgiving day weekend. maybe a year earlier I found a silver Roosevelt dime sitting in the return tray of a coinstar machine. Can't remember any previous time I got silver in change, and I've been looking at my change for the last twenty years. image
