The Mint & Loose Coins in the 25th Anniversary Set.

I wanted to make the point that the 25th anniversary set issue were not an isolated incident. I sent a picture (below) that I had from someone else's past first spouse surprise. They apparently didn't get the message that it was more than just "this one incident."

However, they are "looking into it."

Don't ship in big as* boxes. The box needs to fit what you ordered and packed efficiently. Going through all that quality control at the mint means nothing and is a waste if you decide to screw with your shipping process in order to ship as fast as possible. The 25th Anniversary boxes were way too large for for just one set. These boxes were used for one set as well as 5 sets.
  • It would probably make more sense for the mint to package the coins separate from the gaudy collector boxes.

There is probably a tumbler like effect between the box and capsule as is.

A 1 cent piece of foam would solve this problem image

Actually could probably get several pcs for the 1 cent image

With the loose fit I can understand how they could come out during shipping but that doesn't explain finding the capsule intact within it's hole and the coins loose within the box. I'd actually thought I got shorted a coin but found it loose inside the folded COA.

That is a very interesting problem which you experienced of which I could only say, poor packaging quality control.

As for the overall set, after I had my sets graded, I shipped them to my buyers with the "slabs" and "capsules" in the set box. I even added a strip of 5/16" bubble wrap to take up even more dead space!

The set boxes were poorly designed in that the capsules were held in place laterally with what appeared to be soft neoprene inserts which cushioned the capsules from the wood of the box. This prevented lateral movement but did nothing to address vertical movement. Given the amount of space between the padded lid of the set box and that actual coin capsules, any kind of bump or jolt would dislodge the capsule from the neoprene inserts.

I would prefer a box design that held the coin capsules in place both leterally and vertically.

I'm of the opinion that in a couple of years, theose neoprene insets are going to dry out and become stiff and will nolonger keep the capsules in place. If I were intending to keep a set for the long haul, I'd be very concerned of the integrity of the set's box.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

When I re-sold a couple sets, I simple put in a couple layers of bubble wrap to fill-up the void.

Don't usually like digging up old threads, but today something very unusual happened in the shop.
A regular came in looking for the 2012 2 coin Silver American Eagle set, and I realized the only sets of Eagles I had left in stock , were actually purchased from people on the BST here.
After selling the graded set from Bajjerfan, not long after purchase, I cannot recall who sold me the other sets without digging in the past records. Not having a desire to submit but to keep them original, I do remember pulling them out of the original boxes to save space and stacking them safely away.
After opening them today, it was incumbent upon me to take a photo of the "loose" coin in this set; and oddly was shocked thinking the coins were only loose, not left out of their capsule. image . I had no idea that one was never packed into the capsule… until…

I put it back in the capsule carefully today. But 3 years later, these are the results.

Ooops, missing coin ? Sabotage ? Lazy mint employee ?

If sent in for grading, my bet is it will be deemed AT.
