Does anyone recognize this counter stamp? The "A" looks to have some rays or other device around it. Don't know a lot about these or what variety the coin is. I was hopeful that someone here may know about more it?
The variety of the large cent is an N-1; that's easy, as that is the only variety of the 23/2 overdate.....I have no idea about the counterstamp though.
That's a 3 over 2? To my eyes, it looks like the 3 is repunched over another 3.
Edit: Nemmind, just went and looked at some higher grade examples on HA.com. What looks like the bottom curl of the underlying 3, to the left of the primary 3 on the photo above, must be some porosity.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Unless a brand new obverse die has just been uncovered after all these years, there are only two known for this date, the 1823/2, made from a left over die from the previous year, and the regular 1823.

Thanks, that helps to know.

It may be masonic but I just don't see that.
