Does anybody know of a good dealer where I could purchase a set of £1 and £2 coins for all the years they have been in circulation? I'd like BU coins, and I can't seem to find anybody on eBay that is selling sets of all the years . . . they are only selling individual coins.
I'm in the USA, but wouldn't mind if the dealer was in the UK, as long as they have a good reputation.
thanks
Mark

<< <i>Could you be a bit more specific. We have had coins in circulation for several thousand years, which particular era are you interested in? >>
We've only had pounds and two pounds since Henry VII, so that narrows it down a bit.
On a more serious note, they have never been issued as complete runs so what the initial request is unlikely to exist, unless you can find a collector who is selling off his collection. There are people who collect the recent issues but they tend to be accumulated from circulation. Due to the diarrhoeic output of the mint which puts off people, there are likely to be far fewer collectors of decimal coinage as a series of choice and you would still be reliant on them selling up. That is why you find them typically sold individually. The other problem is that the early hammered gold coinage and later decimal coins tend to be mutually exclusive in collections because of the prices involved - thousands of pounds compared to a few pounds. As Gazza says, you would need to be a bit more specific, but I think you would be lucky to find complete runs of any modern material. Most dealers wouldn't be interested in acquiring large stocks of modern material because the demand isn't great, and it is probably worth noting that I haven't been offered a collection of modern material in the past 6 years. As a dealer you can not realistically sell most currency for too much more than face, so would have to buy at face value, which means the seller may as well use them in the shops.
I'm looking for the £1 coin in use since 1983, and the Bi-metallic £2 coin since 1997.
I would like a collection of all circulation coins & special commems, etc.
