Bummer eBay transaction.

Some buyers really get to me. But what can I do? I bought a 1981 proof type 2 set. I bought the set a few years back form the long beach show. I am well versed in identifying type 2s. I sold it on eBay to a buyer with less than 25 feedback. I know we all start there buy there is an association between the numbe of feedback and number of problems.
When the buyer received it he says that he will let me know how he wants to handle the return in the event his local coin shop says they are type 1s. I knew it was going to be returned (he already had the mind set that there is something wrong). I replied that he can return it for any reason for a refund. I am not one of those sellers who refuses to ask to accept a return just because the return policy lapsed by one day. It is simple - if the buyer does not like the item for any reason I will return 100% of his money.
After I received his message I knew he's going to return it. Today he files a PayPal claim stating not as described. I called the PayPal representative and explain the situation. The gentleman (paypal agent) was very polite and it was a delight to deal with him We both laughed and he explained that the buyer had multiple claims with PayPal stating not as described. I dont fight these claims; I just refund and go on my way.
I believe the buyer had no intention of keeping the item. The coins came from eBay, so the must be fake. I know its not a big deal. It just bothered me today.

<< <i>Sounds like you might get a type 1 set returned to you. >>
Wow, you beat me by a second or two!!!!!
<< <i>So, did you get the same set back? >>
The claim was just filed today. Since I agreed to a refund, PayPal withdrew the money already and will give it to the buyer when tracking say delivered. I thought they just froze the money. It shows the balance in red. Never good. :-)

I hope everything works out for you !!!
I am pleased to read about your mentality of such things.
As frustrating as life can be letting things go and not getting tied down with negativity is priceless.
Many fail to understand freedom of mind and quality of life.
Keep up the good work.

That was my first thought. The seller should claim the buyer pulled the old switchero on him.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Agree. In a case of a blatant fraud such as this, the buyer should be outed so others can block him. I can't believe the forum moderators would want the identity of a thief to be protected. Of course this is assuming you get a different set back. Hopefully you'll get the same set back that you sold him but I very much doubt it.

I do, this seems to keep tire kickers from cycling me. I get almost no returns. When I do they are generally justified. When they are justified, I send the new coin with a SASE so they don't have to pay the return postage.
Anyway, i've had good luck with that method. Maybe guys like this look for auctions where seller pays return shipping.
