type of pen to use for Cello Autograph??

Thanks for the help in advance, but I'm looking for thought on the best kind of pen to use to get an autograph on a 1970's cello pack?

It's the type of substance that I want to make sure I don't ruin with bleed through to the card on top, but also want a nice dynamic autograph to look at.

  • interesting idea... I think I'd have the pack slabbed and have the auto done right on the slab.

I think someone on this board has done that before..... I don't remember who/what card - just remember that.

I agree with Jason ... "DA MUGGSTER", I believe, had a few PSA holders autographed. IIRC one was an Aaron.

  • Do you have any junk packs around? If so I'd sample a few things.

I would try a Sharpie. I'm not sure if it would blead through the pack.

Always a bad idea because marker (even permanant) soaks into the plastic regardless if it is a cello plastic or a slab plastic. If if it doesnt right away, it will in time. The reason is that plastic's base is oil. If anything, a paint pen should be used IMO.

Did one of them look like this???

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

Thanks, I already have a couple like this with the auto on the outside. In this instance I am going to try get one on the cello wrapper, but my main goal is to not ruin the pack or card on top in the process. It doesn't seem like any one has had much experience doing this exact thing yet though. I do like the option of the paint pen idea, I might try a practice run with that.

The one pack that I have signed (1982 Fleer w/Ripken on top) was signed in black sharpie and the sig came out great.

Not that I can tell. This pack was signed in 2001. I just took this scan last week:

I would probably use a Staedtler Lumocolor permanent marker. They are made to use on overhead transparencies and don't bleed into the surface like a sharpie does.
