Sports / hobby things to do in Fort Lauderdale?

I'm going to have a day to myself (with a rental car) next week in Fort Lauderdale.

I'm not too familiar with the area, but can anyone help out with any hobby-related things to do in the area? Any sports / memorabilia / antique shops or flea markets that I should check out?

Thanks!
Scott

  • Hi Scott.

Not sure what day youre coming sooner but there will be a card show this weekend.

Next weekend theres another - not as big as the one this weekend but still enjoyable. That ones located at a YMCA in Boynton Beach - its about maybe 25 min N of Ft. Lauderdale.

As far as some card shops you can visit that are decent...

Theres Buds Sports Cards located in Ft Lauderdale off Oakland Park Blvd near 441. Huge store actually but over priced for sure. Tons of vintage stuff. The older guy that works there is pretty cool about meeting me half way on some items - never hurts to ask for a price you feel is right.

Another is one called Hollywood Collectibles located right off Hollywood Blvd near I-95. That ones pretty big as well. The guys there are pretty cool although the owner seems a bit intimidating and non approachable. Regardless I usually ask for certain prices (because again, some stuff is a bit pricey) and for the most part they have worked with me as well. Maybe not the price I offered but theyll usually counter offer.

Those are the best sports cards shops in my opinion in that area. They are probably about 20-25 min apart. You can google to try and find more details and exact addresses.

Theres a few more but none too worthy. The only way these places survive is with the help of ebay. Im sure thats where most of there business comes from.

    Hope this helps image

I don't know what your interests are, but one of the most overlooked and forgotten about things to do in Fort Lauderdale is the International Swimming Hall of Fame. There is a wealth of material there including photos, films, periodicals, and Olympic medals. It's right on the water, so you can have a nice time in that area and spend a couple hours in the ISHOF. And its cheap.

A friend of mine who used to have a store in Rhode Island moved to West Melbourne and opened a store there, but that is about 2.5 hours away, so that isn't really helpful.
