eBay rant? Not on these boards (seller refuses to sell - abinfl)

I won a large, poorly described lot off abinfl last week and paid immediately. He is unregistered on Paypal, and the payment went unclaimed. I touched base after a day and asked for an update and when he was going to accept the payment. He doesn't respond for a couple of days (which was fine, New Year's and all) and then responds with the following:

<< <i> Hello how are you doing ? I am the owner of the lot that i posted and was out of town and not follow my sale here on ebay. Crongradulations on your win but as i investigate why this is the price you won it for a cannot accept the payment. There was a reserve price on this lot and im not sure why it wasnt met. Honestly the reputation of feedback speaks for itself. I hope you can understand this as im sure you are a collector and know this there is way over 12,000 dollars here. I would never let it go for the price you won it for. Please feel free to ask me any questions as I wait for where this went wrong thanks so much >>

At this point, he requested a cancellation of the auction, which I refused (this was on Tuesday). I responded back that I would like him to honor the auction. No response to that and then I noticed that he is currently re-listing a bunch of the stuff as individual 24 hour auctions. I guess that answered my question. Appropriate feedback was left and I flagged some of his auctions as duplicates.

Whatever, abinfl - next time don't be lazy with your auction description and maybe it will sell for more. Oh, and if any of you are bidding on his current auctions, be sure to ask him what his imaginary reserve price is so you can actually win the items.

Nothing you can do other than call him out which you did, and neg him.

He left A LOT of money on the table in that original auction. Shame on him for listing it the way they he did, and congratulations to you for taking the appropriate course of action.

hopefully it will compound itself when other people win his crap for pennies on the dollar, and then neg him when he refuses to deliver.
  • Hopefully tomorrow's winners are happy with the "greades". Also, he might want to register with Paypal before all of the auctions end tomorrow.

I would bid high on every card that you won in the original auction. Then tell him that these are your cards and expect him to honor the original auction. When he refuses, I would neg him again on all the individual cards.

Oh man that's a great idea. Seriously.

  • I checked out the original auction, where was the reserve? Either I'm blind or it was a no reserve auction.

  • What we should all do is create "secondary ebay accounts" that we dont care about to pull this stuff off. That way when someone pulls this type of stuff - we cant post it on there along with there id and we can ding them with negatives.
  • Morning,

I am sure you thought of this but by posting this here you have inadvertently helped this guy out because you are putting more eyes on his auctions now and he will get more and higher bids.

    Just my 2cents

Personally, I would have gone to EBay and reported him. I assume they would make him either honor the deal or drive him into NARU status. Or am I giving them too much credit?

    you've got to be kidding.

    they elevated him to sainthood.

There was no reserve and he had no clue on how to use a reserve price (he didn't use them on his current auctions either) . This is the first time this person has ever tried to sell anything on eBay (at the very least he has never received seller feedback).

I reported some of his current auctions, but did not report to eBay exactly what happened. I think I will do that now.

Yes, nothing may happen, but at least you can let them know he's selling items you already won. If nothing else, they will educate him a bit.

  • I just got off the phone with a rep, who was very friendly and polite. He said he is going to start a report on this seller and they will begin to monitor him. I'm fine with that.
