I think that really depends on the player/pack. Who is the player?

Only gone a say HOF for now. I have a few other people chasing the same set from another board.

No way to help without knowing more info. Certain packs are best left alone, certain HOFer are EXTREMELY hard to find in a PSA 9 grade. Without more info, this is useless.......
  • I'm assuming kerry doesn't want someone to swoop what they are considering up, and for that I can't blame them... I think I've seen it happen twice in the past 3 weeks (coincidence or not)

Well, what he is asking help on is wayyyyyyyy too vague. That would be like me saying "I have a rookie card in a PSA 9 and someone offered me $1,500 for it. Is that a good deal?? I would rather not say who the player is or what year the card is. Thank you for your help."

Let's use a close example to get some opinions going on this:

There's a currently a PSA 9 slabbed 1975 Topps cello pack with Brett on top (and decently centered). I believe it is pop 10.
It's received 21 bids and is up to $430 with a BIN at $600.

As per the OP's question, is this a "better buy" than going after a PSA 9 Brett RC?

I'd go for the card over the pack. Although I go into both areas of collecting (slabbed cards and packs), I think I tend to lean
toward the card side a bit more than packs. It's just a pure personal bias for me.

In terms of investment potential, both items have reasonably well-defined markets and the market prices are pretty stable.
So unless you're planning on opening the pack and submitting cards in hopes of a bigger "score" I don't see much difference.

Thks for the help. Yeah I know it was vague but I have watched to many times ask a question lose the card. Thanks again.

Bottom line, it depends on how rare the unopened packs are with this star showing on top versus how rare they are in a PSA 9. Supply and demand at its' finest.
  • I also thought the same thing Bobby. Too Vague.

Thats like asking which car should I get, the big blue one or the small red one, but I can also understand why he wouldnt be more specific as someone else mentioned.

Other than that, I dont see how we can really help you. Sorry but as Im sure others will say - buy whichever makes you happier. Do you want for your PC or for investment?

I think it comes down to asking yourself "why am I buying"? If it's going in your collection....which one do you want more? Is buying both an option?

When PSA grades a pack, do they look at the cards? For example, would the Brett in the pack be considered PSA 9 quality?

The reason I ask is because the $600 BIN seems low to me for a PSA 9 Brett RC in pack.

    What is the better buy?

The one that makes you the happiest....

Generally speaking the pack is the better buy because people are still ripping them even if they have been graded. In the long run, you are going to have a harder to find item. It also depends on your personal likes.

Let us know the player after the auction and see if we change our minds.
