So basically, I need to refund the buyer and eat $50, right?

And, then, of course, package proceeds to fall off the end of the earth.

I didn't insure (I usually don't under $100) and buyer hasn't rec'd the package. I'll do the right thing and refund the buyer his money, but I'm wondering if there's any possible way I'll ever get the Post Office to locate this package...

I just had one that did the same thing and it finally showed delivered. With mine, they attempted delivery, left notice, and the buyer had to go to the PO and pick it up. Once that happened, it showed delivered. My buyer took a week or so to go pick up so it appeared to be lost in space. It sounds like you've been in contact with your buyer and if he didn't get one of the notices to pick up at the PO, then I'm not sure what may have happened to your package.

  • The mail man sometimes runs out of the notices. Call their local Post Office to see if it's sitting there.
  • Without insurance, they won't reimburse if it's really lost, but since you paid for Delivery Confirmation, they will investigate and track it down. Most likely it's either already been delivered and your buyer is lying, or it's in a place where the post office can probably locate and deliver it. If it's truly lost, then you're screwed.
  • I've had this happen 3-4 times in my ebay experiences. 3 of the 4 times it dropped off the face of the planet. I called usps had them initiate a trace and it turned up within a few days and showed delivered. I've also had the exact same situation as yours happen when it show "delivery status not updated." I never initiated any contact with the buyer for fear of having them already received it and denying they had it. They ended up leaving + feedback and it was in fact delivered. On another occasion I did in fact contact the buyer and they confirmed it had been delivered even though it showed delivery status not updated. Chances are he has received it based upon my experience. It made it all the way to the correct city and into the mailman's delivery lot for the day. He probably forgot to scan it delivered. Unfortunately I don't believe there's much you can do other than call usps and tell them the situation. At least it was not a huge $ card. One time I had my mail lady(bless her heart, super nice) pick up some outgoing packages for the day. She accidentally scanned them "delivered" instead of "accepted". The DC was pretty much useless at this point. Luckily the buyers were good people as well.

At least it's not like the old days of "seller not responsible if buyer doesn't pay extra for insurance". image I almost had to learn that lesson the hard way; if the package arrives ruined because of poor shipping (which in most cases is because the seller didn't protect the cards right), the seller can just shrug his shoulders and say, "I'm not responsible for the package once it leaves the post office and you didn't pay extra for insurance. Sorry, Charlie." IOW, you're out the product and the seller keeps all your money. And I had one jerk off seller (who did not put insurance on a PS2 after he promised it would have it and was a total a-hole in general; luckily in the end the PS2 arrived safe and sound) try to tell me that insurance is for the seller's benefit even though at that time (about 10 years ago) it was the buyer who was forced to pay extra for it and it was the buyer who gets burned if they don't.

Thankfully Feebay won't allow sellers to make that excuse anymore (it is the seller's job to make good on the product one way or another) though they still try sometimes and I don't like how it frightens beginner Ebayers into paying extra money for insurance when they don't really have to.

great suggestions everyone , in my case the buyer went to the po several times and they eventually told him they just can't find it. The buyer is a very high feedback buyer and this is one of the last cards he needs for his 56 psa 8 master set so I am sure he jsut didn't get it. probably got dropped at the wrong house , fell in the truck or something odd. during the holidays when the po has so much volume, I am not surprised.

I also will not contact the buyer and ask them and have many times run across the case where they give me feedback even though the dc was never updated. goes to show that not all people out there are crooks and there is some hope for this world
  • MOrning,

I have been seeing more and more of this recently, in the last few months have had at least 4 packages I sent go into what I am starting to call Limbo Land and show recieved through a Processing Center in the tracking and then nothing for days even 2 weeks plus. Just had it happen with a Board member here, limbo land for few days and then it just shows up at the Buyers house. I have had it happen with packages coming to me as well.

With Postal Processing Centers slated to be closed this year don't expect this situation to go away or get any less frequent.

For the original Poster it sounds like you have yourself covered, you will eat the $50 but if the Cert # ever shows up in this guys set, Bango Busted!!

I asked him last night to check with his P.O. to see if they have it. Haven't heard back from him yet...
  • Out of curiosity, would this be covered by ebay or paypal seller protection?

Nope, if the tracking information never shows the item delivered to the correct zip code you are SOL as a seller.

I had an item arrive at the buyer's house 1 month after I shipped it. the DC showed undeliverable at first and that it was coming back to me. i refunded them the money and now I just found out that the PO tried to deliver it with postage due because they had to ship it twice to the person's house after it got returned to the sorting center. The person told me that they will not accept it and they will ignore the norices so that it gets sent back to me. Can I get my money back if DC shows it srrived with a notice and they just didn't want it now?
