Goody Goldfaden dies

I know he's been discussed in this forum before. Maybe the hobby's first sports memorabilia shop in LA? Old-timers in the hobby knew him well--or certainly knew of him.
Goodwin "Goody" Goldfaden died on Jan. 1

  • I used to take the bus to his place ADCO every Saturday in the early to mid 70's and buy cards. HOF T206 & T205's where $2-$4 each, yes that included Cobb, Matty, Young and Walter. Babe Ruth cards mostly Goudeys cost $25 and Gehrig was $15 and the other Goudey HOF's where all in the $3-$5 range. I built up a very nice collection spending the $50 I made every week working for my dad during the summers. And almost everyone of his 39 PB's had the stamp on the back. The cards where not in the best of condition because he use to bring them out on stacks like decks of cards and take his thumb and bend the corner and let it make that shuffling sound.

Used to go there all the time as well. He was incredibly mean to kids, but his wife Esther made up for it. '39 PB Dimaggio was $10, Greenberg $1, '33 Goudey Ruth was $25. If you didn't know your stuff (and how many 11 year olds did back then) he'd sell you a HOFers manager card without you realizing it.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
