Large cent with corrosion

Jinx86Jinx86 Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have a 1831 Large cent in low MS grade that has some heavy corrosion on it mostly inactive but I know theres green under it. This isnt a coin to be slabbed but I would like to put it in my 7070 and not have the coin be ruined in a few years. Who can I send it to or take it to have it removed.

The verdigris is likely permanent, but probably stable. I'd say live with it.

I agree with Lance - it's likely permanent.
If you can locate some Blue Ribbon or Coin Care, it may help a little, and may prevent it from getting any worse, by keeping additional moisture
away from it. I'll do it for you gratas if you can't locate any, as 'the good stuff' was pulled from the market years ago.

You may be able to get the green off, but chances are there's something equally disturbing below (i.e. pitting).

I would find a better coin that you are happy with rather than to try and conserve the coin.

Good luck in whatever you decide....Mike

  • There was a PCGS MS65 very early Large Cent with a touch of corrosion on the Rev posted recently. It happens.
