1976 Topps PSA set



I am sure some of you are watching a few of the items that this seller has listed on EBAY and I just thought I would point them out. Man this guy has some insane listings running right now!

    Look at the 57 set he is selling. WOW is an understatement. I wonder if they are the same owner???

    *edit to add the 57 set is being broke up.

    He has some beautiful stuff for sale. All of it is quite nice. The time that must have been put into collecting that 1957 set. To find all of them in that condition with that centering must have taken for ever and a lot of money!

    Wow the 1978 Topps just sold for $4.10 a card in PSA 9 condition.

    Man this seems like a losing proposition unless you have some super rare low pop cards or get all 10's.


    The grading fees are more then the cards even sold for. Ouch!

    The 1975 Topps Mini lot went for $7.01 a card.

    Wow these seem tough to collect if this is all an 8 draws even with star cards in this lot.

    Those are some nice 57s. I've been eyeing that 8.5 Mathews since it hit. I missed the one that went on Memory Lane last auction.

    Those have some very strong bids early. I know nothing about the set but the early heavy bids mean they finish much higher.

    This 1976 lot seems to be getting some attention.

    I have a feeling this one may snipe hard.

    I had the 76 set VCP at $10,188, sold for $7700. Again, the seller didn't do as well with his limited descriptions of cards included.
    From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

    It really blows my mind that a lot of 704 cards with that many in mint condition barely gets $10 a card.

    I did just run through the SMR guide and this 76 set basically has none of the star cards for the first 300 or so in PSA 9 so that explains the price to some degree.

    I just can't imagine paying $5 to get a card graded and if it gets a PSA 9 you gain $2. Where is there any room for profit? The card itself costs something.

    I did the VCP for every card and although the Briggs and Brett are 8's there were still still plenty of tough low pops and star 9's to make this a great buy at $7700

    Putting together a PSA graded set (if you grade all the cards yourself) is like building a custom bike or car--you're never going to get back what you put into it.

    That said, with a little more labor, as Paul alluded to, and by breaking these sets down into lots and selling off the tougher low pops and star cards separately, the seller most certainly would have made more money.


    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

    I have to think this seller can not be pleased with these results.

    On the other hand it sounds like the buyers have a chance to make some nice coin with some effort so that is what makes a market.

    I don't know about 'great buy'. I put in a bid of $7155, and I think you could have sold off the lot in 12 months for about 11.5K. with Ebay fees you're looking at about a 3.8K profit over the course of the year, which is good but not fantastic. At $7700 (IMO) there are better deals to be had.
