Muggyman: EMPTY Topps+ display BOXES. WAX PACKS, CELLOS & RACKS

'Well, with all the very much appreciated accolades and kind words said about my UNOPENED PACKS thread, I figured I would try to contribute a 2012 favorite about a topic that I have rarely seen. My other passion within Sports Memorabilia is...
collecting EMPTY BOXES. You know, the boxes (once FULL) that contained the 24 or 36 wax and cello packs.

Something like those!
Pictured above are the EMPTY WAX BOXES of Walter Payton's RC year ('76), '73, '74, and '75 Baseball. And, then there are the infamously awesome '86 Fleer empty box along with the Bird/Magic RC/Dr J with that coveted card on top. 'Just cool looking stuff and great display items.
As an UNOPENED PACK collector we say to ourselves, "How many of these packs can still be around?" People open them, let alone finding one with stars and RC's on top.
So now, I even go further back and ask, "How many of these boxes that once held these .25¢, .30¢, .35¢ packs on the stationary store's counter could there still be? They are very colorful and attractive and usually have players, teams, etc. on them.
Here are some of mine. I started collecting them about 10 years ago when I listed a 1975 Topps Football Rack Pack Box and I watched it go from $7 to $100 in the last 10 seconds.
I would be remiss if I did not mention, The Baseball Card "Kid's" Unopened Pack, Wrapper & Display Box Guide. It is THEE BOOK to own and has been a priceless reference guide for me as an UNOPENED PACKS & EMPTY TOPPS BOXES collector. It has not been updated in a very long time, but it doesn't really need to. For the $5, $8, $10 dollars that it will cost you to get this book, you should!

The only wax box that I do not have right now (in the 60's) is the 1964 Topps wax box. The cello boxes I believe are much rarer and I mostly have wax boxes, but here is a picture of a 1964 cello box.

Anyone have anything to contribute?
I hope to see this topic; this post; this thread become a great outlet for pricing, availability, and pure collecting of EMPTY TOPPS WAX PACK BOXES.

however, the 64 box you show is actually not a cello box but rather a one-cent box that contained 120 penny packs (like the 60 one-cent box you show).
are you interested in selling that 60 box??? i'm working on a five-cent box run from 51-76; just picked up a 52 and all i need is 54 and 55; however, i am certainly happy to pick up any one-cent ones when i come across them!!
<< <i>I am always up for trading, 'show us some pictures! >>
MUGGGGSTER ... Here's a kewl box that I have. Interested in trading so you can have it in your collection?

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

A 73' OPC Series 1 hockey box is still on my want list. I'd be interested in trading baseball for hockey if anyone has the 73' available.

I usually like to gobble em up when I see them...
<< <i>Regarding the Bird/Magic/Dr. J '80-81 (empty) box, you can generally find them anywhere from $8 - $18 on ebay.

I remember buying a whole box of this in 1983 for that price!!!
And then pulling them all apart, not so smart as one of them was the famous trio one.....
But somehow I did manage to keep one of them intact!!!!

Love, Muggy and Aloha.
I also took a few moments to photograph my unopened wax/cello pack collection before some of them go off for grading.

<< <i>Gem ... very nice collection of unopened. Hope they all grade well for you. Show us the final product! >>
Thanks. Will do.
<< <i>I know this has been shown MANY times before on this site, but this picture HAS to be included in a box thread!
That's one of my all-time favorite photos. Has anyone ever tried to estimate how many boxes are there? There must be over a hundred. That would probably be worth about $10M in today's value. Of course if that many packs hit the market, the value would plunge.
I've shown mine before but here they are again, I've added a 1968 FB box with the Lamonica stand up ad since this picture and I have both versions of the 1971 baseball box (one not shown has bench instead of Rose and says collect all the top stars), John
