Cal Ripken Jr's Rookie Card is now 30 years old.

Wrap your mind around that one for a minute. Wow.

Yep, I remember buying several of them as a teenager after watching him repeatedly beat my Detroit Tigers in the clutch.
  • I can remember getting them in a trade (as commons) when they "booked" for $6 and thinking I scored big.

I remember pulling that card as a kid. My friend and I would walk to the Circle K every time I slept over his house. He would buy slushies and play video game and I would buy cards.
  • Talking about time going by, this isn't sports related, but did you know that Harrison Ford is 69??

Indiana Jones is going to be 70 this summer. Hard to believe.

I had Ripkens rookie as a kid. Never could afford his 82 topps traded. I remember the Beckett from the 80's, when it listed cards down to like 50 cents in each modern set. It wasn't just 5 pages from 1952 to 1990, like it is now. The ripken was always one of the biggest cards.

I remember my dad buying me a complete box (or almost a complete box/whatever packs were left in the one at the convenient store) of '82 Topps. I was 7 years old and I thought that was the coolest thing ever to have that many packs to open as opposed to the 2 or 3 packs I had gotten from any other single trip to the store previously.
  • The 82 Traded is a great card to own.

What I find more interesting is that cards from the 80's although mass produced are still worth next to nothing. Kinda sad - even after being almost 30 years old.
