It's that time of the year to name a thread of the year and a poster of the year.
Feel free to make nominations. You can nominate more then one thread/poster, which in case your vote will be split. The top nominees in each catagory (if nominations are close) will be voted on the by the group. You may vote for one person to win the thread, and the same to win poster of the year, you may also vote for yourself.
I will close off voting and annouce the winners Sunday, January 1st at 10PM central time. You may edit your vote/votes until that time.
For thread of the year, I nominate UNOPENED PACKS WITH STARS ON TOP! by Muggyman. Few threads have gathered as much attention, been so informational, and have Muggyman's excitement.
For poster of the year, I guess I will go jimrad, despite his enjoyment of hockey cards.
Clear Skies,
Mark

Thread of the year- Fergie's unopened pack rips thread
Poster of the year- Split Vote- CDsNuts - Has one of the best senses of humor of any poster on CU. One of the only posters that has the ability to make me laugh out loud at some of their posts. JSweiton - John has a great autograph thread and is always willing to help others with signings. A good guy all around.
Mike
<< <i>Mind reader: Poster of the year Stone a ton of knowledge, Thread of the year MUGGYMAN UNOPENED PACKS WITH STARS ON TOP! Great vids and pics. >>
Cory, just a friendly note, you can vote for Stone, but Stone was the first honoree of the award (4-5 years ago), hence it is named after him.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Poster of the Year - For me it goes to Mike - miconlegacy - for helping organize rips and sharing a true life story that combined made me laugh, smile, meditate, cry and feel blessed to be so lucky to be here.

stone won it (as mentioned) about 5-6 years ago. i know rube was a winner as was zef (he is no longer with us...he got married and had to leave) and i am pretty certain storm won as well. not sure who else has won the coveted award.

Well...my vote for thread of the year is muggymans "unopened packs stars on top"
and poster of the year I would say Doug (dboneesq)

+1 for both
In 2005 Mike "Stone" was Poster of the Year. The first year was named the mudflap award from the first person to suggest this. It was not open to vote, but the awardee was not debated either, and was basically agreed by the forum.
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=415144&highlight_key=y&keyword1=of%20the%20year
Stone, changed the award a little in 2006, opening it for group vote.
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=559850&highlight_key=y&keyword1=of%20the%20year
...and the award was given to Zef.

In 2007 Rube (Randy) was the Poster of the Year. (Mentioned in the thread linked below.)
The thread was deleted during the great Rube bumps of 2008.
Lawnmowerman was the 2008 Poster of the Year.
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=692225&highlight_key=y&keyword1=award%20
thenavarro was the 2009 Poster of the Year. Storm888 was originally named the awardee, but stepped down.

No 2010 Poster of the Year. I started the thread of the year award, it appears I should have done both together.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
He was, IIRC the person that created the award.

Any variation of "VCP help" gets my vote as Post of the Year... easily the most popular and for good reason, AND assuming that the Mail Call - If You're Proud - Jump In with a Scan! Started July 13, 2005 is no longer eligible due to blowing everything else out of the water.
Poster of the Year... I'll nominate Stone193 with or without the It's-my-avatar-and-I'll-delete-it-if-I-want-to factor, AND assuming that stown is similarly no longer eligible due to being overqualfied.
And thread. Ill go with Fergies pack busting thread. That guy had some major hits on it.
Second will be mugys thread as well.

Same here.
In the course of every human endeavor since the dawn of time the risk of human error has always been a factor. Including but not limited to field goals, 4th down attempts, or multiple paragraph ramblings on a sports forum authored by someone who shall remain anonymous.
By the way, your reminded me (by making me read the thread) that you dissed my lawn in 2008. I tried calling you a name here but the forum won't let me.
Will edit the above.
Edit to add: I also added that Storm was the 2009 winner, so I think the list of winners is now complete.
Edit again: The list also explains why I couldnt find a 2007 thread. When Randy was kicked off the CU many of his threads were bumped and deleted.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Both are very worthy and get my votes too.
I'm not sure if the rules of election allow this, I'm too hung over to read the fine print, but I would like to nominate Muggy's unopened pack thread for thread of the year. That is one
of my favorite threads, full of great information shared by many, many people and just overflowing with amazing packs owned by our very own board members. I feel like I say "WOW" every
time I open the thread.
And here's where I'm unclear about the rules....I would like to nominate Muggy as poster of the year too. He brings a ton of good post, positive energy and just comes across as a great
guy. Anyone who puts that much passion into collecting, and shares it with fellow collectors, gets my vote.
As I said, there are a lot of great people and threads on the board, but Muggy's post and thread stood out the most to me this past year.
Happy New Year and Happy New Packs to all.
<< <i>Lots and lots of worthy threads and people to choose from here. I could easily choose half a dozen people for either category.

If there was a rule judge it would be the board, and certainly not me. Having said that, I don't see a problem with it, and will make a note of such on the first posting. This thread, with the first time the history having been laid down, will or might, make a great reference for future like threads, so please, anyone with any thoughts, comments, suggestions or the like, feel free to throw them out there.

I do like the thought of presenting a real award, but if we did such, I don't think those plastic statues on a wood base would cut it. I do however like the engraved glass trophies. Searching eBay i see they run about $22 each with about $10 shipping, so the cost of such would be about $65...if you figure in shipping to the winners from whoever ordered them. I would be willing to throw in $20 to the cause, if anyone else thinks this is a decent ideal, one worth a couple bucks to the price of a dinner, feel free to comment in this thread or e-mail me.
Too bad we didn't think of such in previous years. I have a few awards given to me by the meteorite community that I keep in one of my living room display cases. It is a nice thing to be honored by your peers.
I am of course just thinking out loud, and perhaps we are a couple years away from such. Thoughts are welcomed...and needed should this go another step at this time.

<< <i>Mark, Have you seen what the guys in the Metal Detecting forum do? They have awards for best finds and most valuable, stuff like that. They have a "certificate" that can be displayed in thier sig line. We could do something along those lines. And, we could still award previous winners that way. Just a thought. >>
That's actually a pretty good ideal. Now perhaps someone would like to volunteer to make them...I am no good as those graphic programs.
Interestingly, I have not spent much time at metal detecting forums. I do own several different White detectors, but they serve less purpose in meteorite hunter then one might think. You basically only use them in areas where you know meteorites are.
I do have a couple funny detecting stories. Hunting in the Sante Fe Mountains of New Mexico for the Glorieta Meteorite and I kept finding these old rusty pieces of metal, which was quite annoying, and then hunting some meteorites in Arizona and finding quartz, also annoying, both which I tossed to the side. I later figured out the metal pieces were likely civil war relics...and the quartz likely had some gold in them. Doh!
