Norm Cash

My father-in-law came across an autographed baseball by Norm Cash. I'm doing some searching, and it looks as though his autographed balls go for quite a bit.

Anyone know the story on Norm and why his autograph is so valuable?

I have plenty of balls autographed by dead hof'ers. They aren't going for what his ball goes for. I guess he didn't sign too much...

He died in 1986. He drowned in Michigan.

I think he was the first player of the 1968 W.C. Tigers to die.

Value always comes with supply and demand. I do not think Cash was a great signer.

His autographs don't come up for sale all the time like many other people who died in the early-mid 1980's (Burleigh Grimes, Rube Marquard)

Norm Cash has value due to rarity.

    No. Just a great player.

I'd say he has the same chance at the HOF as Bobby Doerr, Phil Rizzuto or Ron Santo (Of which none should be in).

Also, beloved by Detroit fans. Demand is higher than supply.

Wow, I have 4 autographed cards that he signed at the Troy Baseball Card Show in 1978. I have Topps cards from 1961, 1962, 1962 All Star, and 1963. Time to consider to sell.

This ball is personalized, but not to a specific person. It says something to the effect of "Best wishes...."

I'll post pics when I have the ball in hand in a few days.

    Thanks for the information guys!

funny, for whatever reason, Norm Cash cards are expensive relative to his equals during his time.

    See 1959, 1960, 1966, 1968, 1969 in high grade

Ok guys. I got the ball authenticated. Since it's such a unique item, what do you suggest I do next?

I want to sell the ball, but of course I want to maximize my profit. Oh yeah, I didn't mention this before, but the ball a screw hole in the bottom of it. It was screwed into some kind of display mount that sat on a bank managers desk for years. It's not visible when displayed normally though.

I always appreciate input from all you savvy sellers out there! Thanks

BIN on Ebay $600 Best take the first Best Offer of $500 or more

Try Probstein or the other big ebay co-signer (prewar?, I don't remember his ID I think his name is Brent).

Last resort is an auction house. (20% buyers Premium, plus they charge you 10%)

    Hi - I don't sell

But, I do have one suggestion - insure your scan for the sale is sharp - will enhance the interest IMO.
