How does our host determine the price guides?

Does anybody know how PCGS and other TPG's determine the price guide for different coins? Also how long does it take to come up with the price guide for say the 2011-S MS70 First Strike 25th Anniversary ASE?

I think you are confusing a couple terms, 'price guide' - which is an actually guide representing most/all coins and most/all grades, and 'value' which is the approximate value placed on each coin in each grade.

I don't think our host is really selling 'price guides', per se, although they are selling subscriptions to look at other grades in THEIR PCGS price guide!

In terms of how our host, and other TPG's determine values on coins is that they likely monitor Auction records and regular sales figures

If you look at Coin Facts, it gives some recent prices paid for the coin.

Let's hope Mitch/Wondercoin visits this thread. He can at least explain how the modern prices in the CU guide are arrived at. He's one of our hosts experts, and hopefully can walk us through it a bit.
    I'll come up with something.

Coin Facts is a better price guide than the "Price Guide"
