Selller didn't have card listed

I would like opinions on what you guys do when a seller lists something and doesn't have it? It was a BIN or OBO listing, and I have not paid for it yet. I told him I would pay at the end of the week in the message section of my offer. I don't think he was lying about double listing because he had the exact same card in a auction format that I actually bid on for a while. I realized I probably was not going to win it so I went ahead and gave the offer on the other card. The auction on the other card ended Tuesday afternoon. I was going to pay a lot of money and three days later he sends me a message saying that he listed the card twice and didn't realize it. I lost out on a lot of things because I had that card I was needing to pay for. He said he would try to find me a replacement, I gave him a strict guideline of what I expected from the replacement. I am not sure how to move forward, since I did not pay yet and he offered to attempt find replacement. I have bought a few things from the seller in the past and no issues. Don't know if I should just let it go, or what else to do. Pretty angry though, so any opinions related to this kind of thing would be appreciated. I didn't want to post on ebay forums because they get off track very easy. Thanks.

  • Since the seller made what appears to be an honest mistake you should complain on a message board, neg him and file a complaint through ebay.

Don't know if you are being sarcastic or not. My fault I just couldn't tell. I apologize if you are. All I did was post on here. I have done absolutely nothing else. I just posted to ask if anyone has had this happen and what I should do. I have not had this happen to me. I am sure there are people on here that it has happened to, so I just wanted some honest opinions. I have no prolem letting it go, I just think the sellers #1 priority is to make sure you have what you say you have. I really think it is bad to wait 3 days after the close of the listing and then verify if you have the item. Thats all I was trying to get across. Thanks.

Hard to follow your post. Did you "Buy it Now" or make him an offer? Did he ever accept your offer? The seller could be guilty of trying to sell the same card in two different listings, trying to see which one went higher, then cancelling the other.

Can't prove the above theory, but when I list something on eBay, it gets put in a "for sale pile" and can't be mistakenly listed again.

You are not actually harmed here, other than possibly missing out on some other cards, but asking him to wait until the end of the week seems to show that you didn't have the money at the time, so no deal was ever completed.

I do see your irritation here. You might want to avoid this seller in the future.

Good luck in the future and have fun collecting!

    And Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I don't think I should have posted the problem, until I calmed down and thought about it. It just happened last night. I was all worked up. Sorry to sound so dramatic. I have moved on. Thanks again for the replies.

You're new. Soon you'll realize that NO ONE apologizes around here. And damn few "move on".

Glad your problem didn't cost you any hard cash. Welcome aboard.

I recently had a seller I've bought from in the past send me an email after I paid that he made a mistake on a $5 card I bought (in with a $50 card sale, paid through his website).

He said he paid $35 for it and he mistakenly listed for $5 when he meant to list for $45. He gave me free shipping on the $50 card and refunded the $5 mistake after I wrote him back saying that cancelling the $5 card wasn't a problem.

    Mistakes happen...

    Pretty angry though,

, until I calmed down and thought about it. It just happened last night. I was all worked up. Sorry to sound so dramatic.

If something this petty and small gets you "angry" and "worked up" I would encourage you to see a shrink. In the scheme of life this situation you have presented is about as close to nothing as I have seen posted here in a while. No, I am not being sarcastic. Get help. Good luck.

P.S. Glad you were able to "calm down" from such a traumatic event.
