1955 Clemente- pics added

I just bought a 1955 clemente rookie card. It has 2 creases over his face adn 2 small wrinkles on the bottom left edge of card. Other than that its very nice.

Sounds like a 3; if it is a 3, you got an AWESOME deal.

It sounds more like a 1 or 2. That card is pretty easy to find without creases, so the creases downgrade more than you would think. Irregardless, even as a '1', the card is over $200! With such a great deal however, I would be more concerned with it actually being an original, instead of one of the worthless forgeries that are floating around out there. If you got one of those, then you paid $145 too much!

PS - The more I think about it, a card with creases with ALMOST NEVER have sharp corners! The outside of a card (ie, the corners), would show wear before the inside of a card (ie, the creases). Therefore, the phrase SHARP CORNERS and CREASES should not be in the same sentence. I would be VERY concerned about it being a fake!

Normally I would be concerned about a fake as well but I bought 8 other Clemente crds from this man about a year ago and sent them all in to get graded with no problems.

Were they Clemente rookies?? That card is the most forged card is his arsenel due to the value. The seller might not have even realized it was a fake.

No actually I just thought about it and I bought 11 from 1957-1972 last time from him. He wanted $280 for all of them except the rookie and he wanted $500 for the rookie so I didn't buy it at the time. Since then I've gotten him down on price. I guess it's just a $150 gamble for me!

If you can, scan the front and back....and hold it up to a light....see if it shines through the card.

When i hold it up to a light i cannot see any light through it. From my inspection it seems to be legit.

    Here's a PSA 2 that sold for $280
    image

The pic isn't as good as your scan, but I do like your card more. Think you'll get a 2 or 3, either way at $150 you got a good deal.

I think the creasing is too severe for a 3 as I earlier guessed, I would say it is a 2. It has more eye appeal than the other 2 that was posted, but it has a black circlular spot on the bottom left corner that I am not sure what it is or how it would impact the grade.

You said creases in the beginning. Now that I see the card, it actually looks like surface wrinkles instead of creases. Yes, there is a difference. It looks good to me. Send it in to get graded!
  • orioles93orioles93 Posts: 3,482 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ya i dont know what the spot is either. And i thought it was more like a wrinkle to but it faintly goes through to the other side.
Im hoping the great eye appeal bumps it up to atleast a 3.

Anytime you have a crease in the face the best you will get is a 2.

To bad, because that card has decent centering for the issue.

    Nice pickup.
    Good for you.

I'm not an expert (only been back at collecting again for a few years) but I just sent in a sgc 3 for a cross over in November and it came back as a 2.5. No wrinkles or creases in the card I sent, but it has a small "scratch or gauge" on the front. Corners are also about the same as the card below. I would put a scan up but I'm away from home over the holiday. Anyway, based on the look of the card above, it would surprise me quite a bit if it came back a 3. I'd guess 2 or 1.
I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

Sorry but I think I'm going to get it graded and keep it for my own collection. Thanks for the offer though. If I decide to sell I'll let you know.

    BunchOBull,

That is one nice 2...is there a pin hole or paper loss on back? Super nice card for the grade.

    Jeff,

There is a ding on the right border that radiates into a crease along the edge. It's perfect for my collection though. I purchased it from mdube16 when Mark first became an active member of the forum.
