1901-s counterfeit barber quarter

A recently ended auction for a 1901-s Barber Quarter:

What is amazing is that there were numerous people bidding on this nightmare that can easily been seen as a counterfeit by comparing it to genuine examples:

As can easily be seen, the location of the "s" mintmark is way off.
The 'so called' "s" mintmark on this thing is way to the left of the eagles tail feathers as opposed to where the "s" should be.
Instead of buying a fake for $952.02, why not just pay a hundred more for a real certified 1901-s?

I'm not even sure that is a mintmark. And maybe the seller mis-interpreted the blurry-thing of a mintmark as being an "S".
For clarification, the coin itself doesn't seem to be a counterfeit, and if anything the "S" mintmark was added after the fact.

But my interpretation is that this is just a misinterpretation of the mintmark, which could easily be an "O".
Can anyone confirm an "O" mintmark placement which would match, or closely match the coin in the eBay link?

The mintmark position is off for either an S or O from what I can tell. I suspect the coin is a genuine Philly coin that is so worn someone might have tried to chase some metal to create the possibility of a mint mark. But either the O or S mintmark would be further right and not centered as whatever it is appears to be on this coin. The coin is so worn and the photos so small and poor I'm not even sure whether something is even there. But it is definitely too far centered.

Too bad folks bid on something like this and someone lists an auction such as this.

I believe you are correct, that mintmark is probably just some moved metal to try and represent a mintmark. Either way it is clearly not a genuine 1901-s. Why would someone bid nearly $1000 on one of the most heavily counterfeited coin without even doing minor research. Any novice can see that the mintmark location doesn't come close to being where it should be.

Obviously not a genuine 1901-s, as many have stated the mintmark should be to the right of the tail feathers.
This is why bidding on e-bay can be extremely dangerous for the uninformed.

On eBay once I saw a drawing purportedly signed by Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz sell for $710. Not only was the style a poor imitation of Schulz's, but "Charles" was spelled as "Charls"!
