The Longest Slide Since Ty Cobb......

I've got a few years on me and I'm trying to reconstruct something from my youth and wanted to see if anyone recognized that quote and who it refers to.
Background, I went to High School during the late 60s. Every day coming and going to school I drove by a small sand dredging operation. This was in Mableton, Georgia. Out front of the dredge place was a metal sign probably 10'X12' or maybe larger and it had the name of a baseball player (perhaps someone from an Atlanta team) a picture of a player sliding in to 2nd base and the quote "The Longest Slide since Ty Cobb". I've googled and asked old classmates (all as old as me and with memories about the same).
It's just one of those things I've wracked my brain trying to remember for years so any help anyone could possible give would be greatly appreciated.
