eBay auction time

How long do you generally run your coin/bullion auctions for?

I have found myself falling back to a 7 day auction, sat to sat or sun to sun. The logic being that weekends=more free time for bidders to bid, more time for exposure etc.

Conversely, i have had the experience of not selling a coIn after 7 days, relisting, and it selling for considerably more than I would have thought the second time around.

Thoughts?

I normally start the auctions on Tuesday for 5 days and end them on Sundays. That way once paid, I ship it out Monday and it feels like I did super fast shipping but in reality there's just more business days =D

That's ebay for ya , happens all the time. Ive had items that relisted several times and end up in a minor bidding war.Just when you think you know how ebay works theres something to confound.

7 day sat/sat--sun/sun auction usually works pretty good. I've also done well with wed/wed--thurs/thurs the thought process is alot of collectors use/have a weekly buget so if you sell a day or two before payday and you have what they want they will bid to win it pre weekend instead of waiting untill sat or sun.

I've also noticed this as well. My thought on that is I think thats just ebay dictating who sells what and when but thats just my opinion.

Interesting perspective on eBay dictating sales....

I like your idea about pay day. Hadn't thought about that one.

I would always do 7 day auctions either sat/sat or sun/sun

Lately I`ve tried the 10 day ending on a sun with better(seems to me so far) results

    I also have a store

I've noticed when searching ebay when you get to the ending in say 45 min to 1 hr go back to the begining there are coins that show up that were not there before I've seen it many times.

unless a buyer does a specific search to find what you are selling, most buyers only see the auction when initially listed (time: newly listed search) or when it nears it's end (time: ending soonest search). For this reason you want to list it and have it end at a time of day when you think most potential buyers will be cruising the listings. You also want it to end on a day when you think most potential buyers will be at the computer. My choice for a coin auction is a minumum of three days with a list and end time of 10-11 pm EST ending on a Sunday night.

The price of gold is set by faith, or lack of, in the currency it is priced in.

i just did a test run of some numbers for 2 of my ebay ids for the past 90 days of sales. auction and bin

the sales price was not calculated as a variable nor the quantification of the quality of my images nor returns. i rarely start at .99 so that wasn't factored. auctions are obviously biased since they end of the day i so choose, not the potential/actual customers.

days of the week, type, and then the percent of items that sold on the days of the week along with bin/auc for each day

out of 43 sales on 2 diff ids. i know an insultingly low amount of data

    day/sales/type
    mon - 5 - 3au/2bin
    tue - 3 - 2au/1bin
    wed - 4 - 1au/3bin
    thur - 3 - 3au
    fri - 16 - 14au/2bin
    sat - 2 - 2au
    sun - 10 - 6au/4bin

one could say that fri and sun are the better days, but the dollar amount for each sale is an important variable which i did not calculate and it is possible that the days with the least amount of total sales could have the highest total dollar amount in sales.

the auction format seems to be the better result based on the variables of how i sell, how my accounts are perceived, one is TRS and one is not, neither are stores, both 100% feedback. 90%+ of the BINs were ran as auctions multiple times. so BIN listings may have become auction sales.

there are other ids but it is late and i'm not that dedicated to the cause as of yet, but i think i will track the info for all ebay sales in 2012. still huge variables that will be unquantifiable

i think it would be nice to have more data but cannot use feedback for reverse identification of sales dates past 90 days same as sold section in my ebay

Here is a thought about Sunday night endings. I believe ebay is finally reaching it's band width limits at this time. I have had several times in the last couple of minutes I could not get a bid to go through! I talked with one seller I know and he said he had had 3 people tell him the same thing happened to them trying to bid on his lots.
