Funny, I just picked up a HUGE card that I been looking to acquire for awhile. Chances are zero that I post it on the boards!
  • Matt arranged for the purchase of the PSA 8 Honus Wagner yesterday.

Wait that wasn't supposed to be released?

as much as it's cool to see serious cards posted here, some of the stories behind the wheeling and dealing on behalf of those who make such acquisitions are equally as compelling.

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself, as a one man wolf pack. Though when my sister brought (thunderdan) home I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack, it grew by one. So there was two of us in the wolf pack, I was alone first in the pack and then (thunderdan) joined later. And six months ago when (thunderdan) introduced me to you guys, I thought "wait a second could it be?" and now I know for sure I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves running around the desert together in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!"

Just to come clean, while I did post the following card in the department of redundacy thread, the card is actually not mine, I stole the scan from ebay (didn't want to erroneously lump myself in with the hobby heavyweights):

Not to brag (but I will). I used to have a stash of well over 2000 1987 topps cards, as well as several UNOPENED wax boxes of the same. Before the throng of PM's to see scans piles in, I lost all of it to some craiglist scammer that met me at a well lit public place where he was going to trade me his great grandads attic find of mint 52 Mantles. The dude had an accomplice crack me about the head with a hickory farms meat log and made off with my whole stash of cardboard gold, my days of being a hobby heavyweight are over. Worry not, the meat log was thawed and kosher (I hope) my physical wounds have healed, but the mental scar of such violation lingers.

Chris, should have known it was you. The scene of the crime was littered with nude photos of Ernest Borgnine that must have fallen from your european handbag.image

My ultimate goal in the hobby is to have the Number 1 Alvaro Espinoza master set on the PSA registry. Until that Spence guy comes along and takes the top spot.

Someday, Mr. Nightcrawler. In the meantime, the strippers and cocaine will always be there for you.

That's exactly why I don't want to be a hobby heavyweight. The part about the toast.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Please, please, please . . . leave Alvaro alone... He's been my favorite since the untimely passing of Celerino Sanchez. He is the epitome of . . . of something.

Out of sheer boredom, while stripping monster boxes to sell the commons many years ago, I started pulling Alvaro since I had used him in several jokes. In doing so, I have actually amassed most of the cards issued of Espinoza. Not ALL of them ever made, but one of each . . . Wouldn't want to be misconstrued as a Espinoza heavyweight.

Given that he's a minor league manager, I have actually considered writing and asking if he'd sign the run. There are about 25 or so different cards (although I'm sure there are more) that I have including Tiffanys. If anyone has a master checklist, I would seriously be interested.
