1950 Phila Phillies team signed baseball

Hopefully someone can help me out with an opinion here. A friend of mine is looking to unload this ball. The research I have done tells me that this ball is worth between 1 and 2 thousand. But she doesn't have authentication documentation for it, so we have negotiated a price of 700 dollars. It's in great condition and is signed by the entire team and manager. I'll have to send it to get it authenticated, which costs about 200 I think? Good deal?

I don't think it's a good deal for you if you are the one buying it. It is a good deal for your friend that is selling it. Here's a nice looking one that sold in August 2010 for only $567.63 and that included buyers premium and it was JSA authenticated. I don't think they've done a lot of appreciating since August 2010 either.

  • OK thanks. Clearly it's not worth what I thought it was. I found a couple of sites that put it at 1-2 thousand. Hmmmm....I guess I can back out of the deal!

Many times team signed balls have clubhouse signatures on them too.

Especially those that are not authenticated by a reliable 3rd party.

    Good for you.
  • The funny thing about that ball in the auction is that its a reunion ball. You can tell by the logo. Not sayint that makes the ball work 1500 more, but its probably the low end for a 1950 team signed ball. We would have to see the OP friend ball to give a real opinion.
  • I don't have a picture of it, unfortunately. It's definitely not a reunion ball, though...

Here's another one I found that was auctioned in 2007 for over $3200.00. I still haven't looked at the actual one you are asking about, but my earlier post was done in haste and I didn't look at the pics to see it was a "reunion" or commemorative ball so that was obviously not a good one to judge your potential deal by if yours is not that type. Sorry about that, here's another.

  • Lol. I just told her it wasn't worth $700 and now she's mad at me...
