A proud moment for me and my wife!!

Yesterday my Son graduated from University of Wisconsin at Whitewater with his degree in public administration. Five years ago we were not so sure this was going to happen as he originally went away to another college and nearly killed himself by alcohol poisoning. We got that call in the middle of the night that every parent dreads and raced our way to the hospital which was a two hour ride on a good day. Of course on this night it was snowing like crazy and the ride took us nearly four hours. By time we reached the hospital he was hooked up to a machine breathing and tubes coming out of everywhere. We honestly thought we lost him that night.

Dan has got his act together and while he still has a beer or two he doesn't drink as a result of this bad experience. He has lived at home with us and enrolled himself into UW-Whitewater and earned his degree in public policy and already has a job lined up with a city that is a short 20 minute drive from where we currently live. He has saved money and will be moving out soon on his own....big changes for for our son who has finally grown up.

We are blessed parents as our daughter is now a Master Sergent in the US Air Force and has now been taught two languages by the military and will be serving our country for six more years. With Dan graduating from college we couldnt be happier with our children. We have definitely been blessed.

Dan with his "Diploma"!! We found out they send the actual diplomas to the home address in about two months after the ceremony. I guess they want to make sure everyone has their work completed.

I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Thanks for sharing . I've heard it said that success is not how many good days we have , but how many bad days we turn into good days . Its takes some degree of character to hit a bottom point in ones life and get back up . I hope your son's life continues to move up. You all have much to be proud of .

Awesome! Nothing beats seeing your kids graduating and beginning their journey.

My son chose a technical career and has graduated and entered the workforce. My daughter is still schooling and working toward a veterinary degree. I can understand the elation and the pride that you must be feeling. Congrats to you and your family!!!

  • That's a good looking young man there. Glad he realized there is more to life than drinking to excess. Best of luck to him and his future!
