Relic/Jersey Card Top Loader Question

I recently purchased a huge lot of Canseco cards off eBay and in the box came 2 Bat Cards and 2 Jersey Cards.

What type of Top Loader should I put these in since they are thicker than the average cards?

Also, do you place these in your average size penny sleeve before putting them into the Top Loader?

I'm definitely new to this whole Jersey/Relic stuff but because its of my Favorite Player, I wouldn't pass up on those types from him.
Thanks guys image

Relic cards come in various thicknesses, so it is tough to say. A regular card is 30 or 35 pt, then thicker cards can be 55pt, 75pt, 100pt, 130pt, 180pt.

The only surefire ways to know what holder you need are:
    1. Find someone with one of each thickness of topload and do trial and error
    2. Find someone with a card from the same subset and ask them what topload they used

Most cards fit in 100pt, so if you buy a pack of 100pt toploaders, 99% of the time you will be OK (there might be a little more wiggle room than ideal if it isn't as thick as 100pt). In general, you only need 130pt of 180pt for special relic cards made within the last 5 years or so, such as Sweet Spot autos or ultra thick patch cards from National Treasures, Exquisite, etc.

    Hope that helps!

I didnt know really most of that so that really helps.

But do you also use regular penny sleeves to place the relic/jersey cards into the top loaders such as you would with a regular card or is there a certain type of penny sleeve one would need?

There are also thicker/wider sleeves for these types of cards. I like to buy a box of every size because of how many different card widths there are out there now.

Typically, 100pt or thinner cards can be sleeved with a normal penny sleeve. If it is 130pt or 180pt, they make sleeves for those thicknesses.

I also forgot to mention that a cheaper alternative to really thick cards is to use a 15ct snap case, but the disadvantage is that there is quite a bit of wiggle room, so if you plan on jostling the card around, it may get damaged.

  • This is a question of ignorance, but what does PT stand for? I know it has something
to do with holder size, but how is it measured?

PT is "point," I honestly have no idea what unit of measurement a "point" is.

The case is a good temporary fix but not for shipping. I've read a few posts from people who have had corners dinged due to these cases being used on thick cards.
