December Poppage - 1978 OPC from the Group Case Rip (includes a PSA 10 Pop 1) *Scans Added*

Overall brutal results, but I'm satisfied with the grades. Unfortunately both Ryans and both Murrays were NOT GRADED! Not that I'm that surprised. I was super picky with these cards, especially after seeing thedutymon's grades from this rip. I really tried to weed out all of the "short" cards, with the exception of the Ryans and Murrays. All four of them were admittedly short, so I'm not shocked at their results. I still wanted to sub them, because the rewards outweighed the risk.

No Munson's pulled, unfortunately. He's from my home town, so it's always nice to see him come out of my packs. The best Munson I ever pulled was a 1975 Topps Mini.

Congrats on the PSA 10, Jeff! They're really tough on the Nolan Ryan and Murray rookie from this issue. I've subbed a handful of OPC Murray rookies that I would swear were 9's, and haven't pulled anything better than an 8. Those might be good crack and resub candidates.

    Thanks all!

Just realized this is officially my oldest self-subbed PSA 10. Formerly it was a 1979 Topps. So that has to stand for something! image

    Good job Jeff.

How does the Murray measure out? How does the Ryan square up ? I think , without doing all the measuring , that PSA tends to be extra tough on some of the "stars" , I believe mainly to suppress the pop numbers. I may well be wrong , but time and time again , I see the same cards get knocked down .

Again , good job on your sub.image --- Sonny

after I got em back I checked the murray and he is thin l-r
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
All four of the Ryans/Murrays were short by about a full 1/16". You can especially tell when you compare it to the other cards. It REALLY sucks that they happen to be the two best cards in the set, but I triple-checked, and they are short. Maybe I will resub them some time down the road, but I have a feeling they will have the same results.

Another cool piece of this poppage, I finally finished another small Ripken Set in all PSA 10!!

1995 Skybox E-Motion Cal Ripken Jr. Timeless Set

This set was much harder than it looks... it took me a year and a half of searching and subbing. I've had many 9s come back, and only two of my own 10s. Glad it's finally DONE!

Crap, I forgot. Is it fixed now?

I made it private before because I didn't want to get gouged when I was searching for my final few cards that I needed.

    Hey Jeff,

Congrats on the PSA 10 Doug Ault!!! I didn't think those were terrible results. 3 other pop 2's as well!!! image

Are you working on the 78 OPC set for your PC? If so, you've got some winners there, otherwise, you'll get a nice payday. image
