In 2011 Topps, what does "Cognac" mean? Also a question about Musial in SP's.

What does "Cognac" mean in the 2011 Topps?

Also, I am trying to get all of the SP variations in the base set for my Cardinals team set collection. I have them all except the 2011 Topps Update #US100 Musial. At this website - Sportscardradio 2011 Topps Update Checklist - it lists the Update Musial, but then it has an asterisk at the top of the section stating "I think some of these only appear in the Cognac Set".

I know that there is a Musial variation in the Series 1 (#100) which I have, but I cannot find an Update SP (#US100). The only ones I can find are the Cognac version and not the base version.

Could it be that the Update Musial is on in the Cognac version (which I am not collecting)?

  • THOUSANDS of listings for that, I think you can easily find any answer you seek

    Cognac Ebay
  • Cognac is not only a type of liquor, but a term used for describing a particular color of diamond.

As for the other part of your question, I'm not sure.
  • The Cognacs were only released in Update. It appears it was a new idea because the original Diamond Anniversary was so popular. They went ahead and made Cognacs for all the cards from Series 1 & 2 and released them into Update. So the Musial from Update is just the Cognac version of the card already released and the card number is also just 100, not US100.

Got it. Cognac has to do with the color of a diamond and I don't have to worry about the Update Musial base because they only made the Cognac version and not the white bordered version (which is only in Series 1).

    Thanks all.
