PSA/DNA Jeter Mistake?

I had thought these cards were not authentic (well, I mean the signature on the cards were not authentic). Am I mistaken about this?

I had never heard that these on card autos were not authentic. Where did you get the information cuz I would like to read about it?

At one time, I had heard that a bunch of unsigned "certified" cards walked out of the factory and then found themselves into the hands of a forger. I was told the tell-tale sign is the faded signature. Now, I'm not sure of the veracity of the story, or whether there are some authentic examples, and some non-authentic examples. I figured if anyone knew, this board would.

Actually just found a story about "some" of them being fake. Read this thread:

    Story on Fake Jeter/Rolen

Now I'm starting to believe that PSA/DNA screwed this one up because it seems to have the tell-tale faded signature (although the story does not mention that the faded signature is the tell-tale sgn, although this confirms some of what I had previously been told).

There is someone on this forum posting about these cards being fake, but the auction numbers they are referencing are long since expired. They too say the faded ones are fake.

Seems like Chris Williams wrote both stories... Chris was not the original person I heard about these from (I can't remember where I heard it, but it was not Chris). So, I think the story is believable. Plus, the autographs just looks bad to me.

  • "They are probably your safest bet when buying autograph cards but you still can't take them for granted. Don't forget the number of forgeries in the Upper Deck "Legendary Cuts" from 5-6 years ago. See the below Jeter/Rolen "1998 Topps Co-Signers" autograph card with the Topps "Certified Autograph Issue" stamp. Collectors assume that the autographs are legit. But the one below contains both Jeter and Rolen forgeries. Someone "backdoored" the masters of these cards and then forged the autographs. This also occurred on the Jeter/Karros card."
  • The Jeter card posted in the ebay link is 100% good.
  • The PSA/DNA one is real except its been left out in a showcase somewhere and the autographs have faded.
