<< <i>I just noticed the trailer in your posts with what looks like the pre-Elizabeth II Imperial State crown. Could you give us a little history of that piece?

It is the only two dimensional presention (Other than a photo) that shows the crown taller than wide that I have ever seen. The crowns on coins are generally a fictional graphic representation that are wider than tall. Try picturing a head to go with your example and you can see why they did it that way. >>

That goes back to our genealogy discussion again. It is the badge of the Clan Donnachaidh- the Clan Robertson, in other words. My family crest, you might say.

The same grandmother I mentioned recently, through whom I am supposedly descended from William Bradford and the two Adams presidents, was Evelyn Elizabeth Radeker (1916-1993). She married my grandfather Logan Thomson Robertson (1916-1987) in 1938. Their second child was my mother, whose maiden name was of course Robertson. That's how I ended up with it as a rather unusual first name: Robertson William Shinnick. Most friends and family just call me "Rob", but never "Robert". "Roberts" are a dime a dozen. "Robertson" is a common last name but a rare first name. The only other first-name Robertson I've ever heard of was the author Robertson W. Davies, who is now deceased.

The clan badge in that picture is one I found online- I don't own it. It's a circa 1870s example that I just liked the look of. I have one here but it's more modern.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

    Somebody just won ten bucks.

    And it was...

    ricko!!!

Couldn't have happened to a better guy. Ricko always has something nice to say when I post something. Even if a thread otherwise falls flat, there's usually at least a short post from ricko. So even though it was a random number generator that picked him, I'm happy how it turned out. image

Edit: uh-oh, we've got ourselves a problem. Ricko posted twice. On a technicality, that should disqualify him. But I'm not gonna be heartless. Here's what I'll do. I drew a second number- I always have a backup number in case of a glitch (like me drawing my own name)- so there was already a runner-up on standby. That person was robkool.

The fairest way I can think to do this is to split the prize.

So ricko, who was the first number drawn, will get five bucks PayPal gift. Not the full ten bucks, since he made a slight boo-boo, but half the prize.

And robkool, the runner up who had the backup number, will get the other half. Five bucks to each.

    Thanks for playin'. image

"Few" bucks being the operative word. Each winner got a whoppin' five bucks outta me for this one. Woohoo.

But it's the thought that counts, right? imageimage
