Old Vs. Newer GAI Pack Slabs - How to Identify?

Hey All,

I know a little thanks to the very helpful guys on this forum, but I wanted to have an easily accessible list for identifying older GAI slabs that are more trustworthy vs. the later run of resealed packs/racks/cellos.

Any quick/easy identifying marks?

Thanks!

Grote15 is the expert on these, but if the GAI number starts with a "100" or "101" they are the older flips and much more reliable. The 102's are the ones that have had issues, but again the majority of these are usually fine too.

    LOL, Matt...

The "first generation" silver flips started out with a serial number if 100XXX and went up to 104XXX before they changed the flip design and the serial number sequencing. The earliest ones were holdered when Baker and Mark Murphy were doing the grading and are usually considered the most reliable. The Ryan Rutter era coincided with the 102XXX serial numbers, and had the most problems, including all those fake "grocery" cellos from 1970-1974, though there are most certainly legitimate packs that were holdered during this time as well. I've stayed away (for the most part) from the holders with the designs that followed the old silver flips, though I must say that the most recent GAI holdered packs are pretty reliable from what I've seen thus far, both in authenticity and pack grades.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Yes is very easy! the new holders say Glogal Authority on their label front, and the old only GAI in front label
Global Authentics inc. on back, this change took place in 2009 when the new ownership acquired the card and pack division from the old GAI
    Global Authentics inc.
