107 Down--1960 Leaf Completed in PSA 8 or Better

Set 107 completed with every card PSA 8 or better shows the value of patience. I have been down to needing just one card in PSA 8 or better to complete the set for the last several years--card #72 Dick Donovan. It is one of the toughest cards in the set but not too tough--it is a Pop 11 in PSA 8 with 1 higher. Somehow it just never appeared. I even took to something I never do--submitting raw cards to PSA but the best that ever got me was a 7.5. Suddenly eagle-eye dealer extraordiaire Steve Novella spotted the card and now I have completed the set. Thanks Steve.

1960 Leaf is a 144 card set without most of the big names but it does have Duke Snider and the Sparky Anderson rookie card. I have won the award for best set from PSA 2002-2009 but as in every other baseball card set I collect I was passed by Don Spence in 2010. My set now stands second on the PSA set registry with 70 PSA 8s, 19 8.5s and 58 psa 9s for a set rating of 8.49. I know better than to try to pass Don so I will let my set rest at that level.

I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my collecting goals.

Congrats Jim on another set. Competing against Donald Spence must be frustrating. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that both you guys are way out of my league.

    Thanks guys.

    Vettfanatic,

I honestly don't view myself as competing with Don. Don has different collecting goals than me. He specializes in vintage baseball and is constantly striving to improve his sets. I am generally happy when I have every card in psa 8 or better. Also I collect football, basketball, hockey, golf, boxing and non-sports as well.

Jim ... what else can I say except what I always say:

    AMAZING & CONGRATS!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
