Ebay- Buyer backs out- what now

Had $99.99/best offer on a Tebow jersey. Got an offer of $85- sat on it for a couple of days seeing if anything better came in. Nothing better came in- so I accepted. Got an e-mail from the buyer stating that since she hadn't heard anything back- her husband bought another jersey thus they're not buying my item.

I haven't sold anything on ebay in quite a while- so I'm need of some advice/direction. If I relist the item- will I just be out the insertion fees? No final value fees since no money changed hands? Open an unpaid item case?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice/etc.

Scott

  • Just file NPB and get your fees back.

Or if you don't feel like being hostile you can just mutually cancel - I typically mutually cancel regardless of how BS their reason.

I believe if it's a mutual cancellation, you'll get your fees back. Send the buyer a cancellation notice and ask her to accept it

This is correct. Bidder doesn't deserve a NPB strike IMO.

I don't think many people realize that a Best Offer remains open for longer than they think. Mutual cancellation should take care of refunding your FVFs.
  • I think you've gotten really good advice so far - send that notice for the buyer to void (and now it seems like they're doing YOU a favor.

In the future - I suggest that you put a disclaimer that all offers are valid unless canceled and the buyer will be responsible for purchasing the item if the offer is accepted - even if its days later. If not, that's what feedback is for image

LMAO, like a disclaimer means jack poopies to Ebay - and sellers can't leave feedback

Request their personal information and send a hitman after the husband. How dare they not take sending a BEST OFFER seriously on eBay.

Or not, I though would file a NPB against them because who is to say they don't pull this crap all the time.

If he waited 2 days to accept the offer, I can't blame the buyer for moving on elsewhere. Especially around X-Mas time

I place more blame on the seller for ignoring the offer

    A seller has 48 hr.s to respond.

I'd go the mutual route myself.

If they reply or not you get your fees back.

    FV that is.

    Good for you.

+1 exactly, when I get an offer I make a decision within 30-60 seconds, am I going to sell it for this price or not? I have never sat on an offer! When I make on offer, if its not acted on one way or another, within hours, I withdraw it!

Correct. This is the best way for you to go. You should have no problem with the buyer agreeing to cancel the sell.

  • If they refuse to cancel the sell of the item, file the NPB. They must want the item.

    How can you withdraw it?

    Good for you.
  • I'm not sure if it can be withdrawn. I offered once but then I decided I didn't want to pay that much after more though so I retracted before it was accepted. Only time Ive ever done that but because I didn't see another option to withdraw.

You can withdraw a BO (as a buyer) or a counteroffer (as a seller) through ebay.

I would try the mutual transaction route first.
  • I went the mutual cancellation route and the buyer accepted. Thanks for all the input.
