Idiot lawsuit regarding fake bonds

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,115 ✭✭✭✭✭
Remember a few years ago there was a story in the media about some guy in Italy who was found to have a staggering amount of bonds.....which turned out to be fakes? I believe there was even some slight impact on the economic markets before they were debunked?

If you have some time and a stiff drink in your hand, you might wish to peruse this psychotic fantasy lawsuit:

Looks like a few individuals stand accused of ripping off the Japanese Dragon family for a trillion dollars. Don't know who the Dragon Family is but I don't think I'd want them believing I ripped them off for a trillion dollars. I'll wait for the Jackie Chan movie to try to get a better grip on what went down.

Bizarre. I'm surprised he found a law firm to file this.

Was this when customs agents on a train in Italy supposedly found them?

That was the strangest story ever.

Yes. Here is just one story you can get if you search "counterfeit bonds Italy":

Meyerhardt said U.S. government investigators believe that the seized bond forgeries were made using commercial photo enhancement software to alter the image of a $100 bill to increase the amount into millions or billions and add what appear to be interest coupons.

Another U.S. official said the seized bonds were purported to be issued during the Kennedy administration in the early 1960s, but the certificates showed a picture of a space shuttle on it -- a spacecraft that first flew in 1981. Some of the bonds were purportedly issued in a $500 billion denomination that never existed.

I thought this has a familiar feeling.

It's not the same, but still leaves you with that "slimy feeling" after reading it:

    Dear Friend

And I have always liked the ones that Refer to title 18, Section 1302 & 1342 of the U.S. Postal and Lottery Laws

I hope the lawyer checked the money he was paid with.

Personally, I wouldn't want the case as it obviously has no merit.

and this isn't the only time this kind of thing has happened in Italy. Somehow people heading into Switzerland on trains with these fake bonds are seemingly like the Nigerian money moving scam: not going to die. They have greed and a dream, plus train tickets north to riches!

    treasury scams

    Here's one for $20Bil

    and another for $100bil

I think someone famous recently was entangled with some of these fake bonds, right? I can't recall the story, but IIRC, it was in Italy going into Switzerland and someone had a bunch of fake bonds stashed in a suitcase or suitcases. That person was either someone famous or working for someone famous.

It never ends. Laugh a minute.

I'll trade you 2 loaves of bread for three of those genuine pieces of paper. Do you prefer whole wheat, 7 grain, or the floofy Wonder?
