    Thanks Bryan,

Now what makes you think I want to get it autographed? LOL, you are exactly right.

wow! there is no way that card is "Fair"
  • I don't get into cards that much, but how is that card fair? Does PSA usually take that much off for residue, which the seller is claiming?

Don't Orr RCs usually have some change in the wood grain on the right side of the card? I know mine has some lighter grain on the right side and many of the other ones I see do as well. Could just be the difficulty of cutting between the cards.
    Thanks

  • Are you talking about the line that runs through the wood grain on the right side?
Many of the Orr's have that; and to me the card is simply off centered. I believe that was
the line where the card was suppose to be cut. Mike's example is perfectly centered L/R.
BTW, the example I'm showing is an extremely fugly 6.

I offered $700 for it but got automatically declined. What do y'all think is a fair price to pay for that?

  • Bryan,

Yes, that is what I was talking about and I am sure you are correct. Mine is below and is better centered than the 6 but not as well centered as the one Mike is showing.

    Mike,

Seller looks reputable and the card looks fantastic. It would look great signed.

  • From his listing:

The front of card is Excellent to Excellent-Mint--Back is where I received the low grade---some residue on card--I had the card on ebay a few months back and received 2 offers of $960 and $980 but I refused both since I do not like to ship out of country

If he refused the $700 and $960 (doesn't want to ship out of country, and maybe yes in U.S.); I guess you're looking somewhere in between.
Honestly, I don't know what's fair. How badly do you want it?

I have to agree about the grade. Absent a major crease that's somehow hidden by the angle of the photo, that card is @ a 4, at least. It will be tremendously impressive with an auto.

    Mike,

If the seller is being truthful about the other offers, he probably won't budge for anything less than something in the low $900s. You could get a 3 for that price, maybe a 4, but would they look as good as this one?
    Thanks

I sent the seller a message a short while ago basically asking how much to get it done. Maybe he will respond in a day or two. I need to get one done before Orr passes or it will cost me an arm and a leg for a signed one then

How are you gonn aget that signed? I thought Orr doesn't sign his R.C's,

    Dan,

He does sign them, for the right price. At least that was of as late last year when I had mine signed.
    Thanks

Oh well. Woke up this AM and someone else bought it. Kind of amazes me as the card has been listed multiple times with no sale on eBay. Figures. My own fault though. I snooze I lose, lol.

For those that have VCP access, does VCP show the ebay ID of the winning bidder on best offer type sales??

No...even with VCP you can't see the winning bidder or BIN winner.

As a side, I have been watching that card for a LONG time. I was the one that made an offer from outside the US that was turned down a long time ago.

  • If you want to find out the identity of the buyer, just wait for the seller to leave feedback.
  • That's an amazing card, sorry you missed out nav.

It was mentioned the other day.. posting a card here can be perilous. image

I feel like mentioning that I'm not the guy who picked it up.

  • Hopefully it wasn't someone on these boards that bought it... With that ?seemingly? happening lately.

What was the card priced at that you offered $700? Like the BIN price

    Hell of a 1.5

    Sean,

I think it was priced at $1099. I made the lower offers expecting to get a counter and also trying to just feel out the seller as the card has been listed for a LONG time now on ebay at that same price. What I find amusing is that it's been there for a while and then all of sudden I post about it to ask some questions and BAM, it's sold. Probably just a coincidence and IT'S MY OWN FAULT for missing out, I'm just moaning over spilled milk basically. image

I'll learn a lesson from it though and will hopefully be more successful next time.

  • If your offer was in the 900 range I probably would have just bought it, but not knowing how high you planned to go... "Meh" another nice one will pop up sooner or later... Maybe later!

Slap his marketing person and see if you can get it cheaper....

Just kidding but that is ridiculous considering psa/dna examples of his auto are between $100-$200... a 500% premium... Well I guess you have to get it signed some how...

It is 4x more than he charges to sign anything else through his website. I paid it once and that was enough for me. But there really aren't many signed Orr RCs out there as I don't think he signed them for a long time and I don't know how many people want it that badly to buy an expensive card and then pay another $500 to get it signed.

Mike, sorry you lost out, that sucks. It was a great looking card and would have looked great in your collection.
    Thanks

If any of the board members did get the Orr and are reading this, then you probably already know this or you wouldn't have ponied up $960 for a PSA 1.5, but that Orr looks like a great candidate for a soaking. Make sure you try a common from that year first to make sure the 66's are like the older cards. If the common goes well, I'd be willing to bet you could soak that residue (if it is residue) easily off the back and turn that into a strong mid grade Orr rookie by removing the foreign substance. If you need help, even though you bought the card I wanted, just PM me, I'll help. I definitely don't condone card "doctoring", but if you can get a foreign substance off the card I don't look at that as "doctoring". I was going to try and get it off myself before having it signed.

  • damn Mike, thats sucks it got hit. It was def. a nice low grade rc. Personally I would like to pick one up within the next 2 years but damn, I did not realize how expensive even the low graded ones are! thats more than what the 51' Parky Howe's sell for! Good Luck Mike in picking one up, hopefully another comes your way soon!

Dos anyone else find it incredibly devious that a player would charge MORE to sign specific cards, like rookie cards? I mean, WTF is the difference to them??? What is the reasoning behind it? Is it quite simply meant to be a "screw you" to the fans? I mean, there is no other possible explanation other than it's an exceptionally douchy money-grab. "Uh, I'll sign this one for $50, but I need to get $100 for this one cause it's worth more." WHA WHA WHA??? This would be my response after being told by a player or his "handler" that I had to pay more for them to sign a specific card. I would stare at them uncomfortably for about 30 seconds and then say........................................................................WHY.......................................................WHY............................................................WHY, with each WHY increasing in volume.

    Why?

ummm, because they can? why do you ask for raises at work when you get a promotion?

  • A lot of athletes see people profiting off their autograph and they want more and more money. Look at Mantle and Williams back in the day when they were charging 25 bucks to sign a ball. Next thing you know promoters are making $100 to $200 off these signed balls. So what happens Mantle and Williams up their signing fees. In this case I believe that Bobby knows people would make good money off his rookie card that is signed and wants to get top dollar for his signature on one, so there isn’t a lot of room to profit and they will stay in the “true collectors” collection.

It's highly likely the buyer came from this thread and jumped on it only because some people suggested the card should grade higher. It won't grade higher because there's paper missing from the back. When he realizes this he'll want to return the card because the only reason he bought it was for the upgrade. He may even realize it before paying and want to cancel the deal. The OP should contact the seller and let him know he would like to buy it when it's cancelled or returned. The seller is a longtime professional dealer and good guy to deal with.

He definitely still signs. I got this in the mail on Saturday (out only 5 days), cost a ridiculous $500 for the signature but I suppose he was arguably the best ever:

    image

As for cards, I picked up the one I eventually got signed as a 4.5 for only ~950, though it's a pretty weak 4.5. While I was shoppin for mine I saw a few examples that looked just as strong or stronger than the one you posted with very minor back flaws like paper loss. They seem like they generally sell more in the ~800 range. So you if you have a little patience especially after the Robinson purchase you can probably save a few bucks for one that's just as strong.
  • thenavarrothenavarro Posts: 7,497 ✭✭✭
    Great card Alex,

Yeah, I'm going to have to wait a month or two now after buying the Robinson. I'm glad someone beat me to the other Orr now as I wouldn't have been able to get the Robinson if I had purchased the Orr first. Funny how that worked out afterall.
