Calling all EAC experts is this a 1799 Cent
Twinturbo
Posts: 493
I purchased this coin a while back as a 1799 and would like to know whether or not it is a real 1799. If its not so I can exercise the return option and if it is real so I may slab it.
Photos arent great but its what I can do, I can take more if needed.
Thank You

looks to me to ok from the images, which are not sufficient for my level of experience
don't forget to attribute it if you do get it graded

Would you like more pics?
Good idea to get some authentification help though. This date has been faked for many many years.
I sent these (the seller's) pics to three forum members here for their opinion, the seller whom I trust said Bob Grellman had
verified it, and I showed it to Chris McAwley and a few other EAC guys after I bought it. Call me paranoid
It's a junker, but it's real:

paranoid or not it is fun to work with experts
i have enjoyed it as well

nah, my physical and mental energy is ebbing/waning so i am not up for authentication/attribution this evening
may be a good opportunity to email Bob G. and send it to him
.
<< <i>Bump >>
you haven't sent it to bob yet?

The first image below is from a genuine 1799. The other is not.
Can we see a picture with this detail?
Lance.
Note the position of the T in LIBERTY against the top curls of the hair, then compare to a real 1799 (like the 1st photo above).
When I do, the T appears too far right to be a 1799, therefore I would rule out that date.
IMO of course, and here's hoping I'm wrong.
<< <i>The trick to authenticating a 1799 cent lies in the highest curls at the top of the head...their shape and positions relative to ER in LIBERTY.

Lance I removed the green stuff through acetone and she matches with the second pictire.
So it appears its not a 1799 large cent
Thanks for the info will be conducting a return. And i saved your photos for future reference
based on my images from the husak and holmes sales
that attribution feature is sufficient and reliable
.
thanks for those images, i will be saving them as well for educational purposes

Heritage S-189
Heritage S-188 (1799/8)
I'm sorry to say that neither appear to have the same location of T in LIBERTY as the OP's coin.
<< <i>Not a 1799. Don't waste money sending it off. >>
Already filed my SNAD waiting now to settle the issue
