1979 Topps Football Grocery Packs

Am I right in saying that 1979 was the last year that Topps issued the 3 wax pack trays for Football? It's just that I've also seen the red cellophane grocery packs containing what appears to be 3 1979 wax packs, do they contain 1979 cards or are they 1980 (or even 1981?) issue using leftover 1979 wrappers? If they are 1979 as well it'd be interesting to hear if anyones knows if they were released alongside or after the trays.

I've got some 1980 grocery, but I've not seen the rack trays in 1980. My 1980 looks similar to the rack in your link. Need someone else more educated on the racks to chime in. Topps used the same wrappers for multi years in this timeframe.

They did have some of the ones like the auction you linked to that are 1980 cards with 1979 wrappers. I've opened a few of those up recently.

I've never seen a 1980 wax tray, just 79 and before.

Those are the ones I got, but I've never opened them up so can't really say.
