HUGE psa cases - Can I change this to a smaller slab?

It's been a while since I've bought PSA graded cards, and even longer since I submitted cards to PSA for grading, so please forgive my ignorance.

I recently added the card below to my collection, and the case is so large that it won't fit into my graded card display case. Is there an option to place these cards into a smaller-style slab. I'm not a fan of these at all.

And here it is alongside other cards. Second card from the right. It's flanked by a BGS and regular-sized PSA case.

This is a big WTF. So it is a normal sized card then that could have been in a normal case? Looks like they just ran out of cases and said screw it we will use whatever is on hand.

I would think a company like this would allow you to send it back in to be recased for a small fee. Downside is watch them somehow damage it while doing this and it comes back a couple grades lower.

EDIT: Is that an actual on card auto from Jordan?
  • Yes, it's an on card auto from the 1999 MJ Master Collection released by UDA.

I don't know if this is the latest style of cases being released by PSA, or if this is some kind of option that was selected by the collector that submitted it. Either way, I don't like it. It's just too bulky.

Or, it could have been subbed with a thick card... where submission rules didn't state you couldn't combine... and PSA put it in a thick card with the rest.

Happened to me last year! On my renewal 6-free submission, it says you can submit any type of card, and unlike you see often in the specials... did not stipulate that you had to make them as seperate submissions by type. Sent in 3 regular cards and 3 thicker/memorabilia cards... all 6 came back originally in the GIANT holders. Called PSA CS, and they reslabbed the 3 regular cards for me as a "mechanical error" sub.
  • I would think you risk the card and signature being pressed rather tightly in the holder if they do reholder it. Nice collection by the way!

Beckett will! lol, For consistency and visual appeal I would probably send all the PSA cards and the raw cards to Beckett, just my opinion... great set!

UNLESS you get any grade below 8.5

Then BGS punishes you by using a paper flip because your card isnt "good enough" for the metal used on 8.5 or better, even though the cost is the same

  • Thanks for the replies. Is there a point of contact at PSA that can tell me if they offer a service to put this into a regular case? I'd like to get all of the cards into either a PSA or BGS case, but I'm still looking into the crossover process. I'm concerned about the cards getting damaged, regardless if I go with PSA or BGS.

And thanks for the comments on the collection.
