Worst packaging ever

Ive only given one negative in all my time on ebay and I've only dinged a few stars for sellers that take like a month to ship my stuff, but this is just ridiculous. I bought a couple of graded '72's for the set I'm building and they arrived in a bubble mailer and packaged with some kind of tape paper that won't come off. What kind of idiot puts sticky paper around graded cards? This is not a new seller either. ID is 003591 and he has 6630 feedback. There is no way in hell I'm gonna take the time to remove all of this paper piece by piece and have to buy special stuff to remove it then clean the slabs, etc.....I will be sending these back for a refund.

If he refunds my money I won't leave a neg of course.

Perhaps the seller had a brainfart. If he has to make a refund, then clean the goo off the cards before he can relist them I doubt he will feel rewarded. Disclaimer: I tend to give all the benefit of the doubt until they show otherwise.

Maybe the paper normally peels off easily, but warm weather somewhere along the way caused it to stick?

But, I'm not sure why the paper would be put on the slabs in the first place.

Soaking them in Goo-Gone shouldn't hurt the card... the slabs are waterproof, don't cha know? image

  • Clearly you did not cut on the dotted line.
  • Sometimes the heat from a propane torch works great at melting glue and or burning the paper off
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

i bet the heat from Tommy's forehead would do the equivalent.
  • Thats just wrong,,,,,,,,,,
  • If he returns them without issue he upheld his end and should not receive a negative, if he gives you any trouble at all... Well you are the buyer he is in the palm of your hand.

Those look like the self adhesive labels that are used for the Paypal/Ebay shipping. My labels have the exact same little "cut here/scissor" pictures on them.
  • I would try and clean it off. If it doesnt work, send them back.

not gonna happen. Why should I have to take time to clean off something that shouldn't be there in the first place? That crap isn't easy to get off either. Takes goo gone substance and a ton of time scraping at minimum. Then you have to clean and re-clean the slabs.

If you regularly send in cards for grading perhaps you could add these to your order and have them reholdered. The seller would of course pay this expense.

I would send back also. Is that a Willie Stargell card? What's the grade?

    obviously.
  • Seems to me like he was just being cheap and wrapped the cards in a mailing label to save on having to buy a bubble mailer. Honestly, I would probably leave a neutral. It is what the feedback system is for and like someone said earlier, by not leaving appropriate feedback, it allows sellers to keep doing these kinds of things. Personally, as a buyer I would want to be warned of a seller that does this, but how am I to know if no one ever tells?

I like to dip my slabs in melted steel and let it harden before I send them off. Adds an extra layer of protection so no damage can occur during shipping.

They were shipped in a bubble mailer.

It's too early to leave feedback because the transaction really isn't complete yet. The first thing to do is contact the seller and ask what he'll do about it. He might give a full refund (and let him keep the cards), he might do nothing, or more likely he'll do something in between.

There's no need to warn other bidders if the seller admits his mistake and makes it up the buyer.
