Hot off the press (see posts below).

Platinum Night I: Wednesday, January 4, 7pm ET. (Non-gold). A non-Platinum Night session will follow as soon as this session is over.

Platinum Night II: Thursday, January 5, 7pm ET. (Gold, including the Duckor collection, which will start off the evening's festivities)

There's an outside chance that the times could vary a little bit, but I think the dates are set in stone.

Edited title to make the helpful info more obvious......image

Lakes, I never bothered to change my icon--I really should change it for a pic of a nice 1794 Large Cent. Don't worry about Platinum Night. Dinner with the gang is still on for Tuesday night at FUN. TomT.

You'll know it's Platinum night if the potted plants in the back of the room are rustling more than usual.image

I happened to ask Mark Borkhardt last Friday this very question. His reply was that Platinum Night is scheduled for Thursday, but may extend into Friday night as well.

The session dates and times of the auction are posted on our website at the same time the auction opens for bidding. In general, the times are decided upon at about the time actual cataloging finishes and catalog production (layout, proofing, etc.) begins. We're at that point now.

I should know the Platinum Night schedule some time today, and will post it here when I know for sure.
    Sincerely,

    Thanks, swhuck.

That explains why some dealers were busy Wed. night, but the rest of us didn't know if we were going to be or not. image

You are quite right about the quality of Dr. Duckor's collection; it's (obviously) outstanding, as of course is the Loring collection.

I did not write only about the quality of the coins that Dr. Duckor has collected. Among other topics, I discussed his approach, especially his focus on coins that have their 'original skin.’ Note that quality and originality are not always synonymous. Indeed, they are different, overlapping concepts. A large number of gold coins that are highly certified have been dipped, many markedly so. Please consider David Hall’s responses to my questions in my article about Dr. Duckor’s Saints.

Also, the Capped Head Half Eagles, dating from the 1820s, in this auction event are extremely important. Many collectors are not aware of the incredible number of Great Rarities of one denomination from one decade!
