Any information on this counterfeit dollar?

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,318 ✭✭✭✭✭
A friend of mine who has an antique shop purchased this along with some foreign stuff and asked me about it.
Obviously it's a counterfeit. I assume it was never meant to be passed off as real. Any idea who made it?
Was it a commemorative piece? I don't know...

I would imagine you can still buy them by the boatload from China.

The 1804 "replica" tokens have been around for a long time...hard to determine if this is contemporary or recently made, the makers have methods to instantly age a token, such as this one. Very nice bogus dollar, a real hole filler.

I've seen chocolate coins that looked closer to the original coin.

Too bad the trillion dollars we owe them can't be paid back using these dollars.

As soon as our credit rating drops below that of lower slobovia we should give that a try!

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking.
I seem to recall a set of "replica" pieces... all of them were the super scarce rarities of U.S. coinage.
They maybe they were issued by some medalic company rather than just a cheap chinese copy...

It definitely has that grainy, cast look to it. If it was a legit copy it would have "copy" or "replica" stamped on it. Probably made in China as others have said.

The porosity and reeded edge make me think it is from the far side of the Pacific
