The Cardinals card that I never thought I would have - it's on the way!!!!!

You all know that I am a Cardinals team set collector. I have been working on Topps inserts and test issues for a long time. At the top of my want list has always been a 1968 Topps 3D Curt Flood. I never thought I would be able to find one or afford one.

I have been very blessed recently with a job promotion that has greatly improved my income. I am very thankful for this knowing many people are out of work. A few weeks ago a 1968 Topps 3D Curt Flood PSA 6 became available at Legendary Auctions. I planned on bidding very competitively. I have only seen one other of this card sell in the last few years, so I just knew that that was my chance. Well, I got busy the night it ended and I forgot about it. I suddenly remembered it and I checked and I was 10 minutes too late. It sold for less than what I was willing to give for it too. I was pretty bummed about it.

That was about 3 weeks ago. I thought I wouldn't see another one for a few years. Then, I saw where Huggins and Scott had a PSA 7 ending Thursday night!!!! Although it was a higher grade than what I wanted, I thought that maybe I could make good on a second chance. I set my alarm on my phone to make sure I would be sitting in front of my computer when it ended! I won it! I bought it for the exact maximum I was willing to pay too, so it was very close.

Anyway, my Cardinals collection is more about completion than it is quality. I would rather have a lower grade (raw or graded) than this PSA 7. If you know of anybody that wants to upgrade to a PSA 7, I would be willing to trade for a lower grade plus cash or other cards.

Here it is! I can't wait to get it in the mail.

    Shane, Congratulations!!! image

Glad you were able to get a second chance at this. BTW, was there a huge difference in price between this PSA 7 and the PSA 6 that sold at Legendary Auctions?

The PSA 6 at Legendary went for $1,434 (including buyer's premium). For the PSA 7, I was the high bidder at $1,500. Including buyer's premium and shipping, I have been invoiced for $1,782.50.

I agree with you Shane. I can think of lots of other things to buy with that extra $350 or so. But at least you've got one now and hopefully someone looking to upgrade may take you up on your offer.

Best of luck and congrats again.

Shane ... congrats on obtaining your WHITE WHALE! Both Matt and you obtained your White Whale in the same week. Glad to hear that you got that promotion just in time.

  • That's great news, Shane. Congratulations!

BTW, what line of work are you in? I think I need to switch career field!! image jk

I should be on the look out for one to stick in my Senators/Twins type collection. I should get the web addresses for the auction sites and monitor them, too.

It wasn't all because of a promotion/new job. A lot of it is the fact that I am able to work A TON of overtime. I work for the local electric company. I did get a raise and the raises will also come much quicker (every 6 months instead of once per year). But also, I went from working about 4 hrs of overtime every week as a staking technician to being a meter technician/meter reader and getting 10 to 30 hrs of overtime per week (no, that is not a typo). image

    Shane,

Congratulations on the Flood card and on the promotion. You're a good man, and thanks for helping my friend get the Pujois cards.

Over the years, overtime has helped me thru some difficult times. Glad you have a good job that allows you to do this. Congratulations on the card and your job.

    Congratulations Shane!

All and all, next to the 6 - a good price.

Have you checked with any other registry guys who may be looking to upgrade?

I have checked the set registry and the lowest grade that I could find was an 8.
