PWCC 1986 Fleer Basketball Auctions

I was just cruising through the completed auctions from PWCC and saw some eye popping results on the 1986 Fleer Basketball.
The Dominque Wilkens went for $4,351. I realize this card is super tough and the current SMR is $2,200 so I am not shocked it went for a strong price but is this normal?
This would appear to be a great sign for those that own rare cards from this set in PSA 10.
The other eye popper was the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It is in the SMR at $800 and went for $3,650. Very strong price.
If anything this confirmes that PWCC get's some serious coin on rare cards.

Yes, the fact that the SMR pricing is useless is normal.
My question was more is it normal for these cards to sell for these prices?
These seem like big numbers.

No...it is not normal. The registry is a powerful drug. I bid that Butkus up over $300 and thought I was getting a steal. When I upgraded, I sold for a nice loss, because I am the main one chasing the Butkus cards. Supply and demand at its finest. I am sure the 1986 Fleer Basketball set has more registry chasers than the Dick Butkus set.

In 2010 it sold once for $900.00.
The one you mentioned was the first one to sell in 2011.
Wilkens - In 2010 it sold 3 times ... range was $2,400.00 - $3,400.00
Two days before the auction you are speaking about one sold for $3,860.
I guess these went for good bucks this time around.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>According to VCP, the Jabbar sold 5 times in 2009 and never for more than $650.00

It was also the exact same card/cert that sold in 2010 for 900.
If any of you are feeling brave you can get that card in a bgs 9.5 off ebay for 450 or best offer.
Did anyone see this '56 Mantle in march 2010?
Extremely nice
The best '56 psa 9 mantle you've ever seen?
Buying Vintage, all sports.
Buying Woody Hayes, Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, and Jesse Owens autographed items
Put it this way - When 8.5's via auction sell for less than 8's via BIN, then that my friends, is an uneven auction!
There are a lot of people in the middle market to low end of the card market that do not have unlimited funds and family priorities take over around the holiday season.
At the super high end I would think the time of the year has little or no impact because those folks have the resources year round and they are not budgeting to buy cards.
Running 1500 lots at one time can be a good thing because there is lots of inventory to choose from but can also be a bad thing as buyers commit their current capital towards items and essentially run out of buying power.
