Trueview Problem

I just sent a bunch of coins in for trueviews and they came back looking like it was happy hour in the photo room? See below the coins look great in hand monster toners. Anyone else have issues?

This is a monster toned purple and pink proof

This MPL coin is a monster toner in hand with lots of luster

This ones has a bunch of toning rainbow colors

All in all 25 of 28 were subpar. I'm normally always impressed with there work. Did they hire a new guy? I'm stunned...

I think MrPaseo does a nice job of shooting a penny.

No one seems to be biting on this (edt. wrote this too soon - see above)

I am not really qualified to comment having never obtained a Trueview and, my only exposure to them is on these boards so I am sure my sample is subject to selection bias (mostly great ones are shown).

Regardless, your images don't seem up to par. Others, please correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry you don't like the images. Coin photography is a bit tougher than you think.

I don't know of any changes in the PCGS shooting process. Phil usually does a great job. TueViews tend to focus on color at the expense of luster. It doesn't seem so here.

Maybe you should use one of the professional photographers available here.

Look around. There are lots of us who shoot very respectable images for silly cheap prices.

It appears from TruView Photos that the concept is to capture what captures the eye: Vibrant color. With that, it looks like mission accomplished.

Brilliant proof brown copper with colorful toning is hard to show with just one picture. The TrueViews in the OP are one representation of the coin, but not the full story. While I'm a bit surprised that the shot taken wasn't lit to favor the toning, those pictures would also have been only a partial representation of the coin. I don't know what their process is, but I guess it would make sense to give explicit instructions for how you want brown copper to look when sending it to PCGS, or anyone else, for photography.

In my experience, brilliant proofs are the hardest category of coins to image well.

Those aren't even close to Phil's normal work. I know that there is a second photographer working with Phil. I would request Phil from now on if this is a sample of work done by photographer #2.

    Some of Phil's recent work

    Wow robec.
Those images are a visual feast.

Did you request that black background? Is that new? I kinda like it.

I had a poor experience with TruViews a couple of months ago. Not only did the photos turn out poorly, a couple of the coins seemed to have changed their appearance upon return from grading as well with very subdued color.

Those pix stink. I would suggest using one of the excellent photographers on these boards.

I personally don't like those images of the true views. That doesn't look up to par with their work usually.
