ever been confused by pre 70s brit coin denoms?

I admit I'm way fuzzy and I just bluff my way though some of the denoms mentioned. When I came across this cool site, I was no longer embarassed to be confused. How could you NOT be?

"Before decimalization on 15 February 1971, there were twenty (20) shillings per pound.

The shilling was subdivided into twelve (12) pennies.

The penny was further sub-divided into two halfpennies or four farthings (quarter pennies).

2 farthings = 1 halfpenny
2 halfpence = 1 penny (1d)
3 pence = 1 thruppence (3d)
6 pence = 1 sixpence (a 'tanner') (6d)
12 pence = 1 shilling (a bob) (1s)
2 shillings = 1 florin ( a 'two bob bit') (2s)
2 shillings and 6 pence = 1 half crown (2s 6d)
5 shillings = 1 Crown (5s)"

Of those denominations three continued to be used into the decimal era, the 6d serving as a new 2.5p, the shilling as a 5p, and the florin as a 10p. The sixpences were finally withdrawn in 1980, the shillings and florins soldiered on into the early 1990's when their correspondingly sized pence coins were downsized. There was a mini-rush for sixpences when they were demonetised in 1980 as people wanted them for family occasions like weddings and such and I can remember my grandmother hunting them down to save for later.

And auction houses, some were still using Guineas into the late 1980's and early 1990's.
