They do have to be in the 1981-85 period and not the earlier. For example, the 1973 Barbados set will only go for about bullion.

I am looking for a Barbados 1973 MINT SET (as opposed to proof set) - ever seen one?
PS I think I bought my 84 set for about 200 as well which now looks to be a very good price.

This one shouldn't be hard with a mintage of 2500 but I can't recall ever having seen one.
The Caribbean sets aren't my favorite but I think people are going to be surprised by many
of these over the long term. It's not just the superb quality, excellent designs, and low mint-
ages but the attrition on this stuff is simply staggering. They get cut up for metal, for money,
and sometimes just because there's never been anything else to do with them. Most of the
packaging is stable but a few like Trinidad and Tobago aren't even good for long term stor-
age.
It just won't take much demand when a few collectors decide they want them and they aren't
available. With middle classes exploding in size all over the world it will and has come to a few
of the smaller countries. Things like common Jamaican proof sets might not do much for a few
generations yet but scarcer coins are most probably going to go much higher almost across the
board. And it's not going to take decades.
Then just two weeks later the two larger silver coins from the mint set came up again and sold for near to bullion each! Wow, interesting.
I think some of the reported mintages are actually authorized limits and not how many are struck but can not prove this point. Also, those sets sent to Central Banks may languish for years before finally being sold, destroyed, "confiscated", etc. so it is very hard to demonstrate the number originally available or how many currently exist.
