Any Bat Experts in the house today?

Good morning everyone. Happy Thanksgiving weekend (or what left of it) image

So Im a big Jose Canseco fan and for Christmas, my gf is going to get me what Ive wanted for a while - A Jose Canseco game used bat.

This thing is that I know he mostly used Rawlings or Worth Model Bats - Even Big Sticks...

But How do I know if this one in particular happened to be one purchased in a store and was signed or if it was game used?

Things that make me lean more into it was game used are -

1- The knob has the inscription JC along with a number and the model of the bat
2- It has "33" written on both the front and bottom like most players do
3 - It says Jose Canseco model - but that one might not mean much because Ive seen on eBay under the name, it says the team sometimes
4 - Other bats this seller have also happen to be from Steve Garvey and 2 other players

Now I wrote to the seller and asked how he obtained and this is what I got back -
"I obtained it from a collector who obtained a lot of bats via the Dodgers organization as he had an inside connection but that is only from the National League..." along with other stuff about details on the bat. He did go on to say that he's had it for 13 years and that he purchased it for $375 back then. It really didn't give me an answer as the history of it. Maybe it was game used because Steve Garvey did play for the Dodgers as well.

What do you guys think? Game used or did all the Jose Canseco Worth bats come with that inscription? Why would it say #33 in the front and end barrels? Unless it was also used.

Tough with worth bats. Best place for info on gamers is the GUU forum. I know there is a GU signed Canseco bat with "gamer" inscription for about 225 on the bst thread there now. Im not sure what you are paying for this one, but thats a good gauge for them. Canseco sold a ton of his gamers with the inscriptions so I would probably opt for one of those. PM me if you want more info.

The bats look good, all of them. The Garvey and Lopes models are not common styles for Louisville. The Canseco writing pretty much matches up with one I used to own (an A's bat). Agree that you might want to post on GUU as those guys there are hardcore.

Canseco's GU bats shouldn't be much more than $200. There are tons of them out there and the demand is not that great.

  • He had it buy it now for $188 but I offered $140 + $13 shipping and he accepted.

The seller sounds really cool actually and I believe him so I think its good to go. Eventually Ill get it psa/dna but with the holidays around the corner - that part will have to wait.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Hello. I may be able to help. That is indeed a professional model bat from the 1991-95 time period. The stamped 5 on the knob indicates 35 inches for length. The other is the bat model. I have an Andre Dawson of the same era. Contrary to what some say, Canseco does have a bit of a following on the game used side. I am a member on the gameuseduniverse and I think you got a pretty good deal. As long as you are happy with it then that is all that matters. Enjoy.

the Canseco bat is indeed a professional model however it doesn't appear to have any use on it....Given the supply of Canseco bats out there, wouldn't you rather have one that was actually used in a game?

I do agree there seems to be little to no use to it.
  • lbcoach20 - Thank you sooo much for replying here. I really appreciate it. I had no idea what that number 5 meant either, I do agree that he actually does have a following on game used items. On eBay, there's always offers in his stuff.

Ironman - I would love to have something that has more wear on it. You can see some marks on the bay but its like if it was used for a few games or even batting practice. There was one that I was really stuck on that looked nice and a bit beat up with scuff marks but the seller thinks someones going to pay as much as he wants for it. I wont because Canseco bats go for around $250 on average Ive been seeing so to get one of his (even if it wasn't used as much) for $150 was fine by me. I just wanted a little piece of history from my favorite player of all time is all.

The bat is going to go up on my way - so cant wait!!

Thanks again - u guys rock
