Do we have any empty vintage box collectors...could use some direction.

Hi guys,

I recently bought a 67 Topps baseball box to go along with my pin up set that I had just completed. I really like it and was thinking it would be really nice to have a 60s run of them in my office. I know nothing about them and need some help.

Is there a price guide for them?

Does anyone (vcp/beckett etc) keep track of sales on them?

How do you evaluate them and what to look for?

Do the different series boxes command different prices and how to know which ones are more desirable?

Any help/direction/comments appreciated.

Here is a pic of the one I picked up that was in my other thread.

I've got a run of them- missing '52 Topps, which is pretty plain with little graphics, and '48 and '49 Bowman.
No price guide that I know of, your best bet is to log onto Legendary/Mastro and check realized prices.
Generally I just look for eye appeal, no tears, excessive wear, or writing. I need to shrink wrap mine, a friend builds out an inner frame and then shrink wraps them and it protects and enhances them quite a bit.

Those unopened boxes look great. I never realized they actually put real players on some of the boxes.

  • Awesome box collections. I need to get a few of these as well. Is 'building an inner frame and shrink wrapping' easy to do? I sit at a computer all day. The only person I see shrink wrapping is the meat manager at the local supermarket. - Kevin

the inner frame that I've seen was done by cutting and constructing foamcore, it looked tedious but is perfect for the task. I've also gotten boxes that had a block of styrofoam inside, the downside being it didn't fit the box perfectly so it didn't look as good shrinkwrapped.
Shrinkwrapping is a no brainer- you buy the correct size bag for your item, and then take a blowdryer to it. Perfect fit, and makes the box look a whole lot better while protecting it.
