Ebay bid retractions

So there's this idiot who bids on auctions to see what the current high bid is and then retracts later with the "entered wrong amount" reason. Needless to say...this pisses me off.

Is this tactic fair game or am I right to want to report/out this guy? For the sake of argument, let's assume he has a history of doing this.

Hate the player or hate the game?

  • Some sellers think it is ok. I think it is a scam but I do not believe eBay will do anything about it.

Here's what ebay has to say about it...

"We carefully investigate all bid retractions to determine whether they are appropriate and conform to the rules for buyers. Abuse of bid retractions can result in the suspension of your account.

Bids retracted within the last 24 hours of a listing can be viewed as an example of shill bidding, which is a serious violation of eBay policy."

I wish they had a "I am just a dumbass and misread the Auction" option. I have had to do a few bid retractions over the years and they were all because I placed a bid then later re-read the listing and realized it was not exactly what I thought it was for!

Clearly my fault but I the only way to retract was to use the "entered wrong amount" option.

Bugs the crap out of me when people do it also...the only good news is that with all the last minute snipes it doesnt much help in what the highest bid is.

There is absolutely no reason to allow anyone to retract a bid under the current bidding procedures. Anyone who retracts a bid should be banned from bidding for at least a week (was going to say forever). This is the stupidest part of eBay!

    Report him by all means!!!!!

    Sadly.

I totally agree with your sentiment though. My transgression was retaliatory against both practices.

If ebay would have contacted me they would have recieved a well thought out letter arguing against both the sellers and my practice.

oh well, they dont care as long as they get their dollar.
  • Oh my lord Nightcrawler - you weren't kidding. First thing I did before even posting on here was to block that person. What a nightmare they must be. Freakin cry baby.

When I purchase off eBay - I consider the shipping included with the purchase price and that's how I make my decision.
